Nice proof of concept but that's not even 'close enough for government work'.

Close enough to narrow down the search looking for someone.

The last expensive gaming laptop (which was also the most expensive computer) I ever bought, fried it self after about 3 years. The reason, the internal fan, un-reachable without completely tearing down the laptop, got totally clogged with dust. Great design. Last time I ever even think about a gaming laptop.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! - HT

I bought a T15g g2. Set me back quite a bit but it delivers. i7-11800H and a RTX 3070 mobile. I can play Horizon Zero Dawn on ultra (running Ubuntu 21.04 atm) but I turn off the boost, so the CPU clocks at 2.3GHz. I also bough a cooling pad. That way the CPU and GPU never go beyond 80°C and it runs at almost constant 60FPS.
I actually got it because I wanted a reliable workstation with a great keyboard (Lenovo didn't disappoint) which I can also use to train neural nets. I am very happy with that purchase. Bought it couple of months ago. Let's see how long it will last.
What's awesome about this machine is also that Lenovo provides videos on how to replace any of the components. I've never seen that in a laptop actually.

I also love how far Proton has come. I finished Far Cry 5 on this machine and am currently playing Far Cry New Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn and Control. Deep Rock Galactic also runs well.
Now we donce.

How Long Do Gaming Laptops Last? - LaptopTalks

They mention cooling to extend the lifespan.

What I do is put little pads under each foot. About 1 inch by 1 inch(2.5cm) and about a quarter inch tall (6.5mm). It helps cool it off by a surprising amount. Laptop makers put almost zero space underneath for air to enter those grilles.

I've had it for 7 years. Much longer than they claim. Still runs and looks perfect.

I also got it in a good sale for under $700. You can find them reasonably cheap if you long long enough.

I7 CPU is still ok but the GPU is increasingly showing it's age.

It's a little surprising how few laptop makers make them upgradable. Maybe they make more money just selling people a whole new laptop.

I finally found another cheap one with all of the connectors and slots that I want plus a DVD player and the 17.3 inch screen. Even heavier than my old one which is ok. I think they put too much emphasis on shaving off every last mm and gram. I'd rather have more capability.
