I've also played off and on since it was new. This was one of the best back when it was current. It didn't have the gameplay of WoW, no, but it did a fantastic job of using the setting, of storytelling for an MMO, and with the atmosphere. So no, if you're one of those that just wants to waggle your virtual junk and show off, or brag about damage meters, it's probably not a great game. But if you're the kind that enjoys actually playing, it is (or at least, was) great. It went down hill once Turbine started running it, but all of the content up to that point was, in my opinion, well worth it.

But of course this is still decade-old MMO gameplay, so it isn't exactly current.

Been playing this on and off since the early Shadows of Angmar days and it's the only MMO that has remained installed on my hard drive. However, it's been rather bland over the past year or so - not helped by SSG releasing an underwhelming quest pack masquerading as an expansion ("War of the Peaks" - which isn't in the current 99c deals). It seems to me that much of the current "new" content is just unimaginatively grindy activities using a ton of recycled assets. Whether or not the ongoing storylines can be considered good or not is rather irrelevant if they don't make the game fun to play.

That's everything from Mines of Moria (2008) up through Mordor (2017), which I see they normally sell these days as a $59.99 package.

I downloaded, installed, and tried to log into my account but its login kept saying "Failed to launch client -- No subscription for LOTRO found". My logged in https://myaccount.standingstonegames.com/home.php web page doesn't show a LOTRO subscription, but does show my free DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE™ Subscriptions signed up on 9/22/2009. I tried to sign up a new account since I was playing its free beta back then, but it wouldn't accept my old e-mail address. I don't want to make a new account. I'm hoping its support can fix this soon so I can redeem and play it soon!

I played its free beta that was in September 2009 according to my old account. It was OK, but not good as original WoW, current ESO, etc. Is it better now for me to revisit?
