These are supposed to be 'fans' ?
technically, its short for "fanatic" - so maybe they are just living up to it, for real
honestly the culture of fans and so forth in general has become more strange to me lately, perhaps its something to do with the trump cult and all the special feelings it unlocked for so many people
its like all these new slang words the kids are using... they have one called "simp" - which i havent bothered to research beyond seeing it in use, but through context i have come to understand is another word for "fan" - and im assuming, is derived from the term
"simper" intransitive verb : to smile in a silly, affected, or ingratiating manner - but i have no clue and definitely dont care
its always been about varying degrees of obsession - it just seems more amplified lately to me, although i tend to think its probably more about my own aging process rather than any huge changes in popular culture ... small changes are inevitable, especially along ongoing trends with lots of momentum
