Absolute garbage, I agree...;) Wife and I saw the previews and just started laughing--the original movie wasn't very good, but at least it wasn't racist, like this thing appears to be. Hollywood--getting worse by the day--soon they'll be so far away from the real world that the bottom will fall out of the whole movie industry. Usually I won't comment on something like this--a movie--but your sentiment echoed ours, so it's worth a line or two. Can't fight racism with racism...;) It's like firemen bringing flamethrowers to a 9-alarmer instead of water and foam...!

You're not wrong. People hike the other, non-developed ridgelines often, against common sense. This guy died up on Olomana Trail after falling 400 feet. And this woman died hiking Crouching Lion after falling 200 feet. So even if removed, people would likely try to reach that peak on the same trail. That said, there's a movement to try and preserve the stairs and reopen them. I've heard the view is to die for.

I found most of the characters "realistic". But I do have a taste for well-done films with dysfunctional families -- August: Osage County and The Kids are All Right are two good examples. Not sure why I enjoy them. I'd say my immediate family was emotionally dysfunctional, but overall compared to the rest of the world definitely in the "normal" range. I guess maybe part of it is to watch and feeling some relief that even if my childhood wasn't great, at least it wasn't a complete and total shit show.
