D2:R always aimed to be D2:HD Edition with a few UI QoL updates but no gameplay changes. In large part because most monitors these days aren't 800x600 (or the original 640x480). What SC:R successfully did and WC3:R failed horribly at.
If you want a more "modern" experience there's a lot of other good games out there and D4 is comming at some point in the future.
