I'v been pretty quiet due to the situation here (#whatishappeninginMyanmar - namely civil war) but I am huge Star Trek Fan. I downloaded every single ST series before the last big Internet shut off here.
I agree that most of the new Star Trek doesn't seem Star Trek-ish at all, with the exception of Lower Decks. Yes it is a cartoon and yes it is silly, but out of all the new shows (Discovery, Picard) I've found that this one is the most Star Trek out of them all.
Anyways, I know many people didn't really watch it, but I suggest you give it a light hearted spin. Just my 2c.Cheers!

While I really liked some of the characters and some of the episodes, for the most part it just didn't click with me. I liked neither the character of Michael Burman nor the actress that played her. And the plot threads were a big turn off, both the Klingon and Fascist alt reality threads. Anything starring Jones, Issacs, or Yeoh was enjoyable, but that's not much of the show. I had similar issues with Picard after watching 3 eps: I'm just not into the plot line or most of the characters on the show. I don't think I've outgrown ST though: my son and I watched S2-S7 of TNG a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.VaranDragon wrote on Sep 9, 2021, 05:40:
Blue, I'm interested in how you feel about Kurtzman's (nu)trek shows?
I'm not Blue, but my basic take is that they are Star Trek as written for fans of The Avengers movies. People are allowed to like stuff, and if you like epic spectacle, more power to you. But if what you liked about Star Trek was embodied in episodes like Who Watches the Watchers, The Inner Light, or The Visitor, then nu-Trek basically has nothing of interest.

The R0 of rabies is naught, unless you were one of the unlucky ones that received the tendons and other replacement parts from the guy that had rabies unbeknownst to him before his cadaver was parted out.
“This was the second time in the United States that transplanted organs have spread rabies, said Dr. Matthew J. Kuehnert, the director of the Office of Blood, Organ, and Other Tissue Safety at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first was in 2004, when three people who received organs from one donor died of the disease. A fourth recipient died, but so soon after surgery that the death was not thought to be a result of rabies. In addition, in 1979 a patient was infected with rabies by a corneal transplant.”

With an R0 of 0.33 we don't have much to worry about.
Ebola hovers around around 1.5 to 2.0.
Covid maximum R0 ranges from 3 with the original to 7 with delta.
NPR
Measles R0 sits around 18. (When everyone is vaccinated, the R0 drops to zero)
Would take my chances with any disease before Ebola even if it's *relatively* low on contagiousness.
And let's forget rabies *shudder*.

Nought is mathematically zero in British English, whereas naught means simply "nothing" (hence the phrase "all for naught"). So nought is technically more correct in this context, but in America naught/nought are more or less interchangeable.
