It's an interesting idea, but how long are Framework going to be able to offer parts?
Also, at what point are they going to change hardware interfaces so that you're forced to buy another laptop instead of upgrading the main board?

Given that everything but the motherboard is off the shelf parts, that's not really an issue. For the motherboard, Framework has already stated that they will open source the design so anyone can build it.

The external interfaces are all USB-C. So I imagine they'll change those interfaces about the time the next version of USB has come to the mass market and has a broad marketshare.

They, Framework, have been on all the Linux podcasts I listen to and they seem absolutely committed to long term support, sustainability, and both open hardware and open firmware.

That's why I said I would buy one in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a semi-current laptop.

If I had not bought a System76 laptop just two years ago, this would definitely be my laptop. Everyone who has reviewed it that I trust has raved about it.
