Eh they have a pretty good reputation with post-product support but at launch their games have been universally fucked up. Witcher 1-3 all had huge problems out of the gate and required extensive patching and additions. I agree though that they really pushed it too far with this game - trying to support the older gen consoles was a huge mistake.

I have no idea where CDPR had any reputation for them to ruin, or why people had such high expectations from them. I guess just the absolute mental derangement of the "Witcher 3 is the best game of all time" morons. Like Simon and RogueSix said, all three Witcher games released broke as fuck and not remotely as playable as they were eventually made.

I can understand expecting a better narrative from CDPR, but better production, or well-designed and balanced gameplay? They couldn't have done less to set that expectation, given their history.

Exactly. First Witcher, too. The first two Witchers were very incomplete at release but CD Projekt marketing successfully sold the patch orgies as 'Enhanced Editions' (not completely unlike today's "games as a service"). The Witcher 3 received over 20 patches. Many of them with hundreds of fixes.

I learned my lesson and stopped preordering or buying on release after the second Witcher. I got the GOTY of the Witcher 3 and the plan is to do the same with Cyberpunk in a couple of years. I'm sure that Cyberpunk will be a really decent game once they are done with the patches and expansions. Why play an inferior version now? My backlog will easily keep me entertained until CD Projekt (and the modders) are done.

This Exactly! Pet peev of mine. In the last two years, the only game I've played that actually felt finished on release was Last of Us 2. I remember Quake 2 running as smooth as butter way back when, but lately, shooters are loosing my interest due to jittering and frame hitching.

Losing. My pet peeve. If it's stuttering (jitter implies its network not graphics or game related) or frame-hitching (microstutters) then it generally implies a problem at your end via hardware drivers or software issues. I think you just need to stop getting mad at games and clean your shit up.

The game is fine but its a shadow of what it could have and should have been if you'd believe the hype. Bringing modders on-board is the best thing they could have done.

Nah, these modders are professional level and care about the game. They literally developed tools to help make modding possible.
CDPR obviously delayed release until they hit a deadline they could not legally avoid (publisher, funding or bonus are my best guesses).
They are far, far from giving up and they have even started openly talking about multiplayer again.
They've got a massive long term hit, and they know it. I've played it several times, and it's clear the story is far from over.
There are reports 50% of the game was cut to make a release. I'm extremely excited to see what's next.
Remember the main issue was consoles and that was a legally binding issue and why they had to address it first.

This will test some theories of mine.

One is a game really needs mod tools from the start of like within the first week and the tools should have been in mods hands before release. The theory is, while this is a good move is it too late to matter?

That said if they are use for future products and adhere to the above, this will be good news.

Bethesda gets at least one thing right and that is mod support from the start, it matters imo.

Also this could look like "they can fix what we can't", you know what we say about Bethesda.
