"Revitalized" Quake Accidentally Revealed

It turns out there was a little drama to be found in the QuakeCon 2021 Schedule mentioned yesterday. Though it was quickly edited to remove the reference, XboxEra notes that for a few minutes after it was posted, the schedule seems to have spilled the beans on plans to unveil an enhanced version of Quake (thanks VG247). It sounds like Machine Games has helped cook up something for the 25th anniversary of the first-person shooter. Here's the original description of the Let's Talk Quake session provided via Archive.org:
Quake is back, in this special stream John Linnemann from Digital Foundry talks to John Gustafsson of Machine Games about the title's iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content Machine Games have contributed to this revitalized edition.

Machine Games? This could be good. Unlike Super Mario Doom Eternal. It could actually be Quake and not a platformer shooter.

Imagine saying you don't want platforming in the game that introduced it to id's lineup. LOL!

Haha, me too!!

I was playing for months on keyboard only and thought it was what everyone did! I did get quite good though, and a few clans started showing interest. One night i was playing against one of the clan leaders 1v1, and when i almost beat him... his comment was something along the lines of "holy sheet, i almost got beat by a keyboarder". I was like WTF is a keyboarder? Then he showed me how to enable +mlook and my mind was a blown.

A week or two later and i was stomping everyone lol

Quake World was probably the best gaming period of my life, that and Asheron's Call Darktide.

Same... I had a lot of fond memories during Quake World. Wasn't there even World rankings on that? Not sure how that was tracked but I remember being on that list somewhere :p I was a keyboarder for most, if not all, of my Doom/Doom2 days, that's when I learned about WASD/Mouse. Playing Quake test using a mouse/wasd was already a game changer.

QW was awesome. I remember id Software optimized its game to play well online. I remember playing Quake on my 28.8k modem in my college dorm room!

Machine games. That means we'll get a fun game but with too much focus on plot for a quake game, They'll probably kill off Ranger and replace him with someone lame, And there wont be any mod support. I feel indifferent.

P.S. Stephen, it looks like articles that begin with quotes result in truncated titles (e.g., "Re:").
Come on Kxmode, you of all people (except RedEye9 perhaps ) should know better than to bury a bug report inside a news post discussion. That's what General Discussion is for.

Anyway, the position of the first quote didn't matter, anything after it would be rendered invisible but is still present in the HTML source. It happened in a few hundred threads before, but was less noticeable when the quote only appeared later into the subject. The quotes needed to be escaped into HTML entities - fixed now. Thanks for the heads-up.

I hope they add new content too rather than just updating graphics. Also make tcp/ip play easier to set up rather than just command line stuff. I don't mind it but my friends just don't seem to grok it.

You beat me to saying this.

I still have the same modded dark places install I've been using for a decade. I use it for Scourge of Armagon as well and still play it. Not to be a negative nancy, but I don't think anything modern triple-A devs can do will be as good as what a bunch of dedicated fans did. I'll stick with Dark Places.

I hope this leads to a proper sequel to the original Quake with that medieval look. The Strogg and stuff are fine but aren't really "Quake" in my mind.
