GTA Remaster Plans? [Aug 12, 2021, 8:03 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Rockstar is working on remastered editions of Grand Theft Auto III,
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,
reports Kotaku. The news is not confirmed, but the site is confident:
"Kotaku has reached out to Rockstar about these remastered games and future GTA
re-releases. But our sources have, so far, had reliable track records that have
alerted us to updates in GTA Online and Red Dead Online weeks if not months in
advance." Word is they're coming to Switch and other consoles. PCs go
unmentioned at this time. Here's a bit:
According to these sources, Rockstar is actively developing remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. All three of these games are being remastered using Unreal Engine and will be a mix of “new and old graphics.” One source who claims to have seen a snippet of the games in action said that the visuals reminded them of a heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title. The UI for the games are being updated too, but will retain the same classic style. No details were shared about gameplay, but Kotaku has been told these remastered titles are trying to stay true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible.

GTA 3 didn't have that memorable of a soundtrack, and they hadn't really started licensing the five-star artists they did later. How much is the Scarface soundtrack license going for these days, anyway?
Vice City and San Andreas - yeah, they'll lose some music. But then again, both use older tracks so the licensing is less, and when it finally makes it to PC it'll be the firs thing to be modded back in.
Although I usually got tired of the soundtracks halfway through the games and swapped them out for my own (on-theme) music files.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think the original top-down GTA and GTA 2 are much more fun than any of the more modern 3D games that followed. I would love a remake/remaster of those (preferably with added co-op).

As much as I love the "modern city sandbox" GTA generally represents, Vice City has a flair that was unique to the series and I miss.
Agreed. Vice city is definitely my favorite of the series.
So would it be faithful to the original maps, or would it make sense that they should be updated ? I mean, are we going to have an alternate version of San Andreas between SA and GTA V or should the new one be more like the GTA V version with the other areas ? Also Unreal Engine 5 ? They are really dumping their own kickass engine to make something that looks like a heavily modded version ? Woot?

The soundtracks were a big part of the original trilogy. How many of those original tracks has rockstar lost the licences to I wonder ? I fear a re-release would have a totally different vibe because of the music changes
