AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT Reviews

As mentioned above, the new AMD Adrenalin drivers include support for AMD's new Radeon RX 6600 XT graphics cards, which are due for release tomorrow. Of course these days a hardware release does not correlate to availability, as computer chips remain in short supply. Nevertheless, the review embargo has ended, and evaluations are now online on the off chance that someone other than a reviewer can get their hands on one of these:

Following the GPU market lately is like watching a train-wreck in slow motion.

For American don't forget your "trade war is so easy to win" by Trump, 25% tariff for all GPU coming from China. Do you really think it is the manufacturer or the seller are going to absorb the tariff? A $400US GPU will automagically become $500US in USA.

I think it should cost $279--because of the 128-bit VRAM bus. Now, if they had given it a 192-bit bus & a bit more VRAM they could likely charge $379 all day long and people would be recommending it instead of panning it....but I've never been a fan of these cut-down, memory hobbled GPUs, from AMD or nVidia. Just seems a strange asking price for this one, imo.

But until GPU production returns to normal, nobody will be buying GPUs for MSRP. This one will likely sell for the scalper price of $600-$700, maybe--until the blessed day when GPU production crawls out of the gutter globally. (I'll be getting a 68000XT when that day finally arrives, unless RDNA3 is shipping by then...;))
They can ask that much b/c of the chip shortage thanks to COVID. I hope you're vaxxed Walt, cuz otherwise you're part of the problem.

Just looked on Amazon. There are indeed cards available. But these are the typical prices for NVIDIA cards right now:

3060 ~$900
3070 ~$1400
3080 ~$1600-2000
3080 Ti ~$2500
3090 ~$2900
Those prices are insane.
My laptop purchase with a 6gb 3060 for $200 less than a 3070 ain’t looking too shabby.
It’s running everything I can throw at it on Ultra at 1080p.
That's a mobile version of the chip tho, right?

An added benefit are the 4 vents that double as mini blowtorches.

Have you shopped form Memory Express before? The video cards are in-store only, often with bundles now. Markups are about 30% + PSU.

During normal times, they do price match & beat to other Canadian retailers (even Amazon): the item needs to be in stock and Part# match.

I just built a brand new system a few months back. The only things left are a new video card and monitor. The latter I'm waiting on a HDMI 2.1 which should be doable before Xmas I hope. I don't want to buy anything bundled and get stuck trying to unload something at retail price. I'm just pissed the other manufacturers aren't doing what EVGA is or I would have went with them.

Just looked at ME and it's like $50 cheaper than CC which I'd spend on gas driving to Hamilton and back to get it so bleh.

Capitalism, ain’t it grand.

As for nukes, China’s had them since 1964.
WaPo China is building more than 100 new missile silos in its western desert, analysts say
“ The acquisition of more than 100 new missile silos, if completed, would represent a historic shift for China, a country that is believed to possess a relatively modest stockpile of 250 to 350 nuclear weapons. The actual number of new missiles intended for those silos is unknown but could be much smaller. China has deployed decoy silos in the past.”

Cards are starting to show up at legit retailers for sure. The problem is they're all still 100%+/- over MSRP. The 6800XT's MSRP is $650US/$815CDN. The cheapest one Newegg.ca has is $1900 + $100 shipping. Cheapest one Canada Computers has in stock is $1599.

What sucks is I suspect my RX470 is starting to go south so I may have to buy a new card soon. The thought of paying double the MSRP really gets on my tits.

Those NVIDIA prices on Amazon are all massively marked up scalper prices.

As for Micro Center, they don't have any graphics cards available to ship online, and their web site indicates zero stock of RTX 3000 series cards at most of their locations. So screw Micro Center.

The shortage is still very much present.
