Confirming recent rumors
, a tweet from
announces the 3dfx brand has been purchased, and new 3dfx
products will be released this (northern) winter. The only thing harder to find
for your PC these days than a new graphics card is a new graphics card from
3dfx. That's because the company shut down
back in 2000
, selling most
of its assets to rival NVIDIA.
expresses skepticism, but here's the (theoretical, at least) word on the plan for the return of
the voodoo doctors:
Jansen Products is proud to announce that 3dfx is
returning after 20 years.
Jansen products, a new investment company in San Francisco, acquired the assets
of 3dfx Interactive on July 23rd and is currently in the process of trade
marking the 3dfx name. Our partners at Jansen will monitor day-to-day operations
of the 3dfx brand. 3dfx is scheduled to return this winter with new graphics
cards, and will expand into other products relating to smartphones, smart TVs,
and sound systems.
