Fallout 76 Fallout Worlds Announced

Bethesda announces Fallout Worlds, a new custom server program for Fallout 76 that allows control over many of the settings in the post-apocalyptic RPG. This will officially launch in September, but is available on the Public Test Server as of today. A two-pronged affair, this includes Public Worlds open to all players, as well as player-controlled Custom Worlds only accessible to active Fallout 1st subscribers. Here's the way these work:
PUBLIC WORLDS FOR ALL!
Public Worlds are a rotating series of Fallout Worlds experiences available to all players. Hand-crafted by the team at Bethesda Game Studios with input from the Fallout 76 community, each Public World uses a different combination of Fallout Worlds’ settings to bring you a unique play experience.

This offers everyone in Fallout 76 the opportunity to see for themselves what’s possible in Fallout Worlds, as well as inspiration for their own creations with Custom Worlds.

TAKE FALLOUT WORLDS INTO YOUR HANDS WITH CUSTOM WORLDS
Custom Worlds completely evolves the personalization of Fallout 76’s existing private servers, granting active Fallout 1st members full access to Fallout Worlds’ settings and features to build their own personalized Appalachias.

While players can experiment like a mad scientist to their heart’s content solo, Custom Worlds is also a blast to share with others! Invite your friends and teammates to your Custom World and they can join in on the fun even without a Fallout 1st membership.

No, thats where it pays off for M$ and Bethesda. Keeping those weapons and hacks in the game SINCE LAUNCH and doing nothing about them, so that players are essentially forced to spend even more money for a private server so they don't have to worry about the hacking assholes. .... A buggy, hacked mess being "programmed" by mobile devs that don't really have a sense of direction. There are SO MANY bugs and QoL issues in the game its ridiculous.
Yeah, that's pretty much my headspace. I'm not letting them capitalize on a beloved IP and extort more money because of trash development and management. FO76 had amazing potential. They blew it at launch. They blew it with preorder rewards. They blew it with 'no npcs'. They blew it with artificial caps on inventory (that can conveniently be solved by paying monthly). They blew it with allowing magic and hacked items to stay in the game. Over and over and over. It can be a fun experience.....DESPITE a myriad of poor development and management decisions. But it could have been great.

I find it amazing how many poor decisions they have made...and double downed on.....and have since had to revert just to keep a semi-active playerbase. I genuinely think without the original Wastelanders expansion the game would be dead right now.

All of these things and the fact that a Bloodied-Unyielding build is far and beyond THE late game build to use if you don't have hacked or magical weapons. I enjoyed the game early on....but after a while, having to fast travel to find three places that aren't cleared out by hacked/magic players or have multiple boss events spoiled by same....or getting one-shot by a stealthed Bloodied-Unyielding player while trying to get resources from a workshop.... Screw it. I'm not paying for a private server just to be able to play.

I've played my fair share of this game. Came in after Wastelanders dropped, had my fun, then the "blinders" came off and I started seeing the game for what it really is. A buggy, hacked mess being "programmed" by mobile devs that don't really have a sense of direction. There are SO MANY bugs and QoL issues in the game its ridiculous. Don't even get me started on the various daily/weekly limits.....which is stupid even after they doubled it because of complaints. There's just so many things wrong with it, that I can't even play it for 10 mins without getting annoyed.

I just got back into playing this game. A recent patch has added a bunch of new loot modifiers and now power armor can drop with modifiers. There are a lot of people showing up at world events now for the new loot and crafting parts for them. This over the course of several years has turned into a very fun looter shooter.

Credit where credit is due. As much of a joke the announcement was and the followup release as well as some time after it's nice to see Bethesda not just bury it and move on. They turned it around to where it's a pretty fun game even as a watered down version of the Fallout formula. I doubt they'll ever perfect it though given the restraints they have created it within which really undermines its potential so here's hoping they at least used it as a learning experience since I have no doubt this won't be their last venture in to an MMO-style title.

FO76 is an OK game for the first few levels but as soon as you start to get deeper you meet the hackers and OP "removed" kit that basically means you stand there in an event doing nothing. The solution? Pay per month for a private server.

Nah. Buy in a sale, play for a month and then move on.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The countdown to someone reverse engineering the server protocols and making a open source server/script lang so you can bypass their official servers and setup your own then the inevitable DMCA, C&D emails and legal threats that all the news sites jump on in 5... 4... 3...

The game (and hence the official servers) came out Nov 14, 2018, and you think now is the time someone will reverse engineer the protocols? It's not like this patch is adding servers, it's just allowing custom server rules. If the servers haven't been reverse engineered previously, there's no reason to believe this will make it any easier (or likely to happen).

Well this sounds interesting both sides of this equation. MMO's could use servers with different rules servers.

I don't think I would have ever tried 76 if it wasn't just a title on Game Pass, but since it was I have played a fair bit of it and found it mostly fun. Not great, but there is very much some fun to be had. That said, if they were going to design the game the way they ultimately did, this really is the way it should have started, not the way it eventually will become.

It's too bad so many people have bought into this premium subscription bullcrap... There'd probably be a real offline mode by now, otherwise. Or if they just dropped the game completely, at least someone would mod the map and content into FO4.
