Out of the Blue

Well, the recent storms have done a little landscaping outside the BlueTower, leaving MrsBlue worrying she may have tapped into some latent psychokinetic abilities. As I've mentioned, our little townhouse is blessed with a lovely view of a pond. Right in the middle of our view, however. is a tall gangly tree (or at least there *was*). When we moved here this was being strangled by vines, which left it partially defoliated and pretty ugly, but still with enough leaves and branches to obscure part of our buena vista. That is, until this weekend, when the tree toppled over into the water. Being right on the edge of the pond likely impeded its root structure, and the heavy rain probably caused enough erosion to uproot it. But as I say, MrsBlue has been spending so much time wishing a disaster would befall the tree that she's jokingly worried she was the cause. At some point in the future if you notice these updates being written by George Clooney you'll know her psychic powers have blossomed fully.

Yeah, seen something about this before -- just simply weird. Can't figure out what I think of it. The Scandinavian countries seem to specialize in odd public television, like the eight hour shows in Finland that are nothing but landscape shots.

I love John Olliver, I'm glad he hosts his segments on YouTube.
I still miss TDS with Jon Stewart although Trevor Noah seems to have come into his own.

Dillerman cartoon seems bizarre, but then again I recall that as a young teen I loved Monty Python, which I had to watch in secret, because my father thought it was porn.

Celebrating 20 Years of International Space Station Spacewalks
https://youtu.be/ChtE0EW6MlY
On July 20, 2001, two NASA astronauts took the first “steps” out of the International Space Station’s Quest airlock, marking the start of two decades of successful spacewalks in support of station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades enabling all of the life and work onboard to take place. On the same date 32 years before this milestone spacewalk outside the space station, two Apollo astronauts were taking historic steps of their own on the lunar surface for the first time. Astronaut Mike Gernhardt tells us what it was like to follow in such momentous footsteps and how crucial innovations, like the airlock and many others, are to the future of human exploration near and far.

The part that is most impactful with the Texas bill, is that smaller states often buy textbooks for their schools that were influenced by the Texas curriculum.

I'm not sure about heart racing but there's a couple places around here that makes a cold nitro Brew and if I drink only one I can feel the ends of my hair ... and I'm bald.
I had a winter outdoor gig assisting with some Wi-Fi during an event. I asked the local coffee shop to do a large pour over into my huge ss insulated rtix. Once again I didn't notice my heart racing but I was wired.
Sounds like that drug Preludin, the old timers used to take in the 1970s for concerts, sex, drinking, walking around and breathing.
At least that's what I've read, no idea if it's true. Innocent Giggle
The Beatles had to play for hours, and they were often given the drug (referred to as Prellies) by the maid who cleaned their housing arrangements,
German customers, or by Astrid Kirchherr (whose mother bought them). McCartney would usually take one, but John Lennon would often take four or five.

Cops like tree removals. They work them hard and they clear them fast. Right now there's a NYCI unit gathering wood chips . Tomorrow they're going to be looking for the owner of a custom painted hand rubbed Husqvarna 135. If the tree you cut, if anyone saw you? It won't even take that long.

And I thought I hated Bezos....

Why is Bezos flying to space? Because billionaires think Earth is a sinking ship

Jeff Bezos is the most reptilian of billionaires. His heart has never shown evidence of a drop of warm blood. Despite all of the public relations that money can buy, his discomfort with normal human emotion shines through every time he is forced to contort his face into a squinting, uncomfortable smile. It seems overwhelmingly likely that once he gets to space, he will peel back the skin from his bald pate like the creatures in V and exclaim to his fellow aliens: “I’m here!”

Opinion: We need climate action, not space tourism

I care about the future; therefore, I care about the climate. I belong to the vast majority of global citizens who, as poll after poll show, are concerned about the direction the planet is heading and understand the urgency and existential nature of the impending climate emergency. The recent catastropic flooding in central Europe and extreme high temperatures in North America are just a few symptoms of this.

So in my family, we do something about it. We scrimp and save on our carbon budget: we walk or ride bikes instead of driving our car; we eat dramatically less meat than the average family in industrialized countries; we skip that trans-Atlantic trip even if we really want it; we make sure we're not wasting food and we also compost our scraps.

And then some filthy rich a-hole blasts into space, just for fun.

That's incredibly selfish, isn't it?

And it really devaluates our efforts to protect the climate — both morally and materially.
