Sweet, I played through System Shock 2 several times, but I don't think I ever even came close to finishing SS1, primarily because I played it after SS2 and found the game unpalatable. It was pretty rough back in the day, if memory serves.

The demo has been updated to March 2021 and it was well improved. I do think the price of $45 is high for this, just for what it is overall, I will get on a 50% off sale but quite look forward to it then.

All you fellow System Shock fans, if you've never played it, you should try Prey (2017). It's considered the spiritual successor to System Shock, and I would have to agree. It definitely has that vibe. Only 12 bucks on Steam right now.

I can understand someone not liking the pixel-texture art style, but to say that the graphics are bad is objectively not true. It's stays true to the original, but with modern lighting and materials, while the pixelled textures are a throwback to the origins of the game. The enemy designs are definitely a sign of the 90s so I can definitely see some people not liking them. But that's why I like it. it didn't lose it's colors and designs in the remake process.

If they ever do this to System Shock 2, with the co-op intact, it'll be an immediate buy with 4 copies for me. The original was amazing with 4 players, 2 soldiers (one damage dealer going high tech, one low tech tank) a psychic to heal and manage monsters, and a hacker to open everything. You could complete the game 100% since everyone in the party was able to specialise in one aspect of the upgrade tree.

I bought SS2 on day 1 (and got the day 1 shiny box which I have since managed to lose), and it was excellent but I never played it co-op. I also played the ReBirth mod for it, which updated the graphics and made the game even better. When SS2 gets remade (I'm certain it will, eventually), I will buy it again. One of my favorite games, ever.

I tried the alpha of this and it looked amazing but the AI was non-existant. I'm sure they fixed that since. Otherwise, anyone knocking on the graphics is stupid. It looks great. What else are you expecting? It's a damn remake of a game from the 90s. As long as it looks better than that, who cares? I just want it to play well. If you want graphics, go else where. There are plenty of SHIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT games with pretty graphics and TRASH gameplay. Go play one of those.

The graphics aren't great but I tried playing the original and the controls were so bad I couldn't even start. Played and replayed SS2, and have played Bioshock as well.

So this will be a day 1 purchase, and I look forward to seeing what the the original designers actually intended.

So pretty! I hope its controls are better than the original DOS game which annoyed me not to play it.

I guarantee that is fixed (played demo) it plays like you would expect a FPS today.

Is that the demo from 2016?

My understanding was that the demo was updated several times to show off the progress they have made. Graphically the enemy animations are wonky but this is System Shock 1 remake as long as it's better than the original I consider that an improvement. I only beat System Shock 2, I never beat the first one. I will be playing this one. Shodan needs to be put in her place.

Might've been captured with DLSS. And since DLSS on System Shock's current version defaults to the performance setting and you can't adjust it...

I know graphics aren't everything and loved system shock when it first released but this is laughably bad. I keep watching the trailers hoping they'll improve but due to the protracted development time they actually seem to be getting more dated. It looks like a ps3/360 game and the enemies, in particular, are atrocious.
Go back and play the original. Then tell me this is bad.

Dude, some people just cant appreciate games for what they are. Way to much emphasis put on graphics. I on the other hand don't, I'm more about the game play and the story. Graphics are always nice to have. but its not the end of the world either if they are not there.

I've played a demo on Steam that I thought was a later one than the 2016 release - I think it's from early this year - with a slightly larger area to explore, and more polished. The controls, so far, are nothing like the original. The controls and GUI have been totally updated. It's quite playable.

I'm stoked for this. The original is one of my all time favorite games.
