Baldur's Gate III Official Release Date Uncertain

In a video interview on GameSpot, Larian boss Swen Vincke discusses progress on Baldur's Gate III, Larian's upcoming RPG sequel that's currently in Early Access. Swen Indicates a full release date is in flux, saying Larian is working very hard to get the game out in 2022. It's slightly confusing because the interviewer asks if they are shooting for an official release "in 2020." Sven's Response is that Larry and would be happy to release it "next year." He says "we're aiming for it," but stresses that there are "no guarantees." Unsurprisingly, he cites the circumstances surrounding the global pandemic as one of the main reasons for any setbacks they've suffered.

I love love love DOSII and an old school cRPGer here and I kinda hate what I played of BG3. That said, Solasta is doing what BG3 is doing (lot's of dice rolls, generic high fantasy etc.) and I think it does it better and feels more D&D too me at least.
This. Solasta is everything I wanted from a D&D 5e game. If they get the dungeon generator out of beta and solid, I'm not even sure I'll bother with BG3. The gameplay is that good...

Never ever heard of this game. But when even ppl like you praise this game so much, I think I'll just go for it. Maybe this game is exactly what I'm missing right now.

I've farted around with the pre-release stuff a bit and to be honest this feels way too much like a Baldur's Gate mod for D:OSII. I don't mind the change of pace but it has a lot of Larian jank to it and not in a good way. I don't know, I really wanted to love it but was pretty lukewarm overall, it just feels off. I will give the final game a chance when it's on sale.

And IMO, DOSII was quite the overrated game. You slog along with the unbalanced grind and crap RNG. I had to force my way to play it through because it wasn't very enjoyable.

Unbalanced grind and crap RNG?!

It feels to me like a remnant of my soul is lodged stuck somewhere in the core of Faerun. I love that world so much my attention has no room for other fantasy IPs to share a similar love for. This is why the early reveal and EA is a pain in the ass for me. I don't want to touch this game until it is done. The necessary patience is death.

Whatever dude, but in no way did this feel like a mod. not even close!

Exactly, as someone who modded D:OS 2 I wish we could have done even 5% of what BG3 is doing... and for a super alpha version of BG3 what they have in EA is flat out mind blowing. If we would get something akin to the NWN editor then BG3 would also literally NEVER die since we could implement all the hundreds of modules.....

I played BG3 EA once to completion (including seeing the ending video) and thought it was a great experience. I will play it again when it's done, whatever long that is.

Don't get your hopes up about creating modules like NWN. In most D&D games you could save your characters on your own PC and then join that character into hundreds of servers/worlds people created. BG3 is going to be like D:OS 2 where the characters are all stored on the host's PC, so after you play a session and disconnect you pretty much lose that character.

That wouldn't really be a problem if you could recreate entire modules in 1 module from start to end. But I admit that is maybe a pipe dream since Larian clearly has a lot to do still to even get it done.

Hopefully they delay the release and release a really polished amazing game.

Going by Larian's track record, the (somewhat) "really polished amazing game" will be called Baldur's Gate III Definitive Edition and it will be available in 2025.

I found DOS 2 to be flat out amazing in every way, and it was one of the two games I have played to completion in the last 10 years. BG3 test run was awesome, I love what I played, but I am going to wait for a full release because otherwise, it feels sorta spoiled.

Same here, although I thought 1 was also great. I haven't played BG3 as I'm saving myself for the full release game.

Given that these guys put out such polished games (loved DOS 2), I would gladly wait another year if they have to do it. I haven't played the EA, since DOS 2 spoiled me when I played that one.. I have seen and heard only good things though.

I don't see how the game will make it out in 2021--not possible, I'd say. Judging on the size of the game--the EA doesn't even take us to Baldur's Gate-- I wouldn't be surprised to see the final game ship in early '23. I think it will be a truly great game when it's done.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

If they need to take more time to make this game great, I'm ok with that. The EA has come a long way and it's quite good atm.

I'm knee deep in Solasta atm anyway, which is a really solid 5e D&D based CRPG. The story isn't amazing, but the gameplay is fantastic. It even has a dungeon creator - currently in beta - though it's no where as extensive as the old NWN 1/2 stuff.. which I desperately miss.

I respect your opinion so I'll give it another shot, my first exposure was literally 20 days after they allowed it so I'm sure its come a long way.

So - are we going to see the release of Baldur's Gate 4 before that of BG3?
