Out of the Blue

I'm still dealing with the aftermath of my auto accident. Apparently this is not the last time I will get to say that. I got to see the orthopedist yesterday, and I am now in a full splint on my left arm. It turns out I may need surgery, and my arm may never be the same again. So I guess it's time to give up this effort to pretend this isn't a big deal. To punctuate that point, I also learned yesterday my car has been declared total loss. I will always appreciate it sacrificing its life to protect mine. Anyway, this splint makes it impossible to use my left hand for typing or anything else (I'm pretty sure that's the idea). I'm not very adept at one-handed typing, evidence of a misspent youth not chatting with webcam models. Hopefully the arcane magic of voice recognition will help along the way. On the bright side, I'm sure that's bound to produce some amazing typos. Or would that make them speakos?

I would expect there was some level of overconfidence involved, given that it was during practice for a world record attempt.

Most of you guys are old enough to remember Evel Knievel's 'Shark Jump' in 1977 where he crashed into a camera platform doing a test run. I remember watching this on TV. Must have been a weekend, and there wasn't anything else to watch. One of the networks had blocked out 2 hours for this, and all they did was play that crash over and over again for two hours, while a camera crew followed him to the hospital. Evel had two broken arms, but as they were wheeling him into surgery, he promised he'd finish the jump later in the day. That's the kind of reality distortion field these people live in.

Evil's talk chalk was expertly stomped on with a sprinkle of H (pain relief), a dash of pcp (invincibility) and remainder baby laxative (healthy bowel movement).

Yeah some people feel the need to justify their selfishness with the whole "doing what you love" bit. If you have a family, you have a responsibility to at least try to be there. There are a lot of things I would love to do in life but I need to be there for mine so I'm not taking absurd risks for the fleeting adrenaline rush. I gave up on some of my riskier hobbies like climbing for that reason. And like you said it's the same reason I don't get involved in road rage incidents, fist fights and other associated nonsense where you could be easily injured or killed for the sake of pride.

I'm not sure that would have helped you, as you would have learned to one-hand type with your left hand while your right was, ahem, busy. Since you injured your left arm, you are stuck with your right which would have received no training at all, or rather, not the kind of training that could help in this situation.

Different people have different priorities. I'd agree it seems like a bad choice, but *shrug* Seems as if most of the video has been taken down, although truthfully I'm not sure I want to see it. I am curious to know generally what happened. Did he come up short and crash into the landing ramp? Or crashed on the landing ramp or what?

This fucking killed me.. BRILLIANT.

Sad to hear about the car but hey, it did it's job! When you're cleared for physiotherapy go do that right away and if they say "you only need once a week" do twice a week.

As for the news:

I'm surprised that WKRP isn't streaming anywhere. I'd like to rewatch that now. Man, Herb was the major inspiration for a good pal of mine who's a salesman. He idolized Herb Tarlek. And was there anyone who actually though Loni Anderson was hotter than Jan Smithers? Not anyone I know.

Ahh, no wonder my brain always feels better after hearing Fascination by The Human League.
