Icarus in August, No Longer F2P

Icarus will take flight on August 11th, offering a new co-op survival game for up to eight players from RocketWerkz, the developer founded by DayZ co-creator Dean Hall. The game was first announced exactly one year ago today as a free-to-play title. But apparently it was flying too close to the sun, and word is that's changed. The game and its DLC will all be sold as AAA premium releases, and it is available for pre-purchase on Steam, which says the game is due on August 12th. There is also a deluxe version which includes both upcoming DLC packs. The PC Gaming Show 2021 Trailer shows off gameplay. Here's a bit:
Endure a savage alien wilderness on Icarus, humanity’s greatest mistake. Survive its brutal environment as you explore, harvest, craft and hunt while seeking your fortune.

From their orbital space station, prospectors drop down to the planet surface for limited time mission sessions in search of rare, valuable exotic materials. Those lucky enough to survive will return to orbit to convert their exotics into advanced technology and take on ever more challenging drops. Those that get left behind... are lost forever.

Icarus was once destined to be a second Earth, but when terraforming collapsed - the air turned toxic and humanity’s hopes of colonizing a new world died. Icarus became a joke, a symbol of humanity reaching for the stars and failing. Yet when xeno-biologists discovered the cause of the failure - exotic matter - new interest was ignited. Valuable beyond reckoning, these ‘exotics’ sparked a gold rush that fueled political tensions between factions on Earth and brought prospectors flocking to Icarus.

I don’t get it. Survival game with what appears to be building & crafting but there is a timer and the world resets when you leave for the space station or does it move to a different map or something else?
Strange idea, I may like it but I know several people who will go nuts over their perfect build having a timer until they must move on.

Dean Hall?

Hard pass.

That was my first thought too. Triple AAA premium abandonware more like.

Hey guys I got a great idea!

What's that?

You know how we've been building a grindy microtransaction based free to play game, how about we charge for it and a stream of DLC?

Won't that set back development?

What?

Well we've built a grindy game for microtransactions and now we're changing the cost model shouldn't we change the game design?

No.. that's why I'm a genuis, we get full price upfront and dlc and microtransactions.. bonus time here I come.
