S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl in April

A new trailer from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl offers a look at gameplay from the upcoming irradiated shooter sequel. The clip shows off some beautifully horrifying Russian campfire singing, some beautifully horrifying environments, and gameplay, both action-packed and strategic. It comes along with the news that the game will be released on April 28, 2022, and that preorders are now underway:
The game now has a release date — the players will return to the Zone on April 28, 2022.

We are pleased to acknowledge there are numerous ways for the players to enjoy the game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl will be available on Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and will enter Game Pass on both PC and Xbox Series X/S day one. There will be 3 different digital versions (all available for pre-ordering today) and 4 physical versions (pre-orders coming in several days) of the game.

I wouldn't go that far. The Metro games have really good atmosphere and do well at the claustrophobic feel.

Creeping through the brooding Chernobyl sky, knowing an artifact/missed group could drop you in a second in stalker was intense. It was outrageously tough at times, but I'd still replay it today whereas Metro was a one and done for me. Though the trailer lets me think it's an open world Metro game (more bullet spongy) than a more tactical STALKER game.
The brutal anomalies and the artefacts were really compelling, as were the factions introduced in Clear Sky.

Personally, I'm okay with the open world setting being slightly more constrained in STALKER 2 if it improves the experience. What I don't want is for it to be a pointless chore, like in Metro: Exodus - they give you a van and allow you to drive around freely but there just isn't any compelling reason to want to do so. Personally I'm more concerned about the AI - in the video it looks like they just stand around, whereas effective AI was so important in the original games.

My main issue with previous media drops was it looked like a Metro 2033 corridor shooter rather than a S.T.A.L.K.E.R open world.

Feeling better now.

This is absolutely one of my most anticipated upcoming games. The visuals here really look top notch and the gameplay shown really looks in keeping with the previous games.

The original games had so much atmosphere and were really something special - they were also buggy, punishingly hard and inaccessible. However, I always preferred them to the Metro series, which had a similar setting but was a more linear experience.

I really hope this can live up to expectations.

Not sure what the naysayers are on about. This game oozes atmosphere. The graphics are some of the best I've seen, and I can deal with the jank (if indeed it is jank, as it looked like it was played with a controller) plus if they kept and improved on the RPG aspects of the original I'm totally sold. I'm not much into single-player shooters these days, but this game looks sick (In a very good way).

I never cared about the stalker graphics. instead I loved the atmosphere, that russian feel. metro comes close but not quite, the overall game design. Very open world, great weapons available at the start if you can get to them. Later games added weapon mods as a leveling system. great exploration, fun finding secrets, run replaying areas to get better outcomes.
I've never actually finished the first game and I kick myself in the ass repeatedly every day for not doing so. When I first started and I barely understood what I was doing I was caught at night out on the plane with no light and no way to tell what the hell I was doing. I started hearing the dogs around me and I knew that I was screwed if I didn't get to safety soon. I saw a little campfire so I ran as fast as I could all the way to it and I sat down next to the campfire and the dogs chased me the entire way there but I made it. I sat there and listened to the guys talking and playing the guitar until the sun came up. It was kind of a seriously weird experience but cool.

Graphically, it looks like what I would hope a modern version of STALKER would be, even with the same atmosphere. The lack of movement by enemy shooters was concerning although I'm hoping that either means AI is still a work in progress, or they were just had it turned off for demo purposes. I would also like to hear more about weather, monsters, and wildlife routines. But overall, so far so good.

When it was first released I would have agreed to a certain extent on this sentiment.
But once the mods came that fixed and improved the base game and allowed you to customise it to your liking, STALKER shone like a gem.

I wish they would have said something about the A-Life, I mean it's one important feature that made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so appreciated.

I haven't seen any specifics on it yet, but they are using the term 'A-Life 2.0.' That detail and more on its Steam listing.

na I agree with op. It reminded of the old game just with better graphics. Indoor look great. Outdoor wasn't really shown. Movement and fighting looked really bad/underwhelming.

I love the series and hopefully S2 will be good.

The Back 4 Blood right after it looked way better. Also, That last game trailer looked great, too bad it's a console exclusive.
Hell, even the furry animal fighting game looked better than Stalker 2..lol

I thought that the graphics were quite beautiful honestly. I don't know if it's ray traced but I'm guessing that it is. I like what the light was doing to the guys hair when he was close to the camera.
