Fallout 76 Free Week; Dropping Battle Royale

A new Inside the Vault Update from Bethesda has the latest on Fallout 76, the post-apocalyptic RPG prequel. First off, a free play week is now underway, so you can sample the full game all you want between now and June 16th. The game is on sale for 67% off (lost opportunity for a 76% discount) if you decide you want to keep it, and all free trial progress will be retained if you do. There's also a weather forecast announcing a thaw for the Nuclear Winter, saying this battle royale mode will ride off into the sunset in September. So if there's a battle royale between all the current crop of battle royale modes and games, this will not be the last one standing. Word is Bethesda is thrilled at how many players tried this out, but they are not thrilled with how many players have moved on:
When we first introduced Nuclear Winter, we were thrilled to watch so many players from our community, as well as many newcomers, dive head first into our take on the ruthless last-player-standing Battle Royale genre. Over time, however, we’ve seen the vast majority of players prefer to explore other aspects of the game. It has also become tougher to put full Nuclear Winter lobbies together without also making sacrifices on match wait times. Additionally, we’ve found it challenging to provide meaningful updates for Nuclear Winter, while also developing and supporting exciting new content for Adventure Mode in recent and upcoming updates. With all of this in mind, we are currently planning to sunset Nuclear Winter Mode in an update coming this September.

We know that some of you are incredibly passionate about Nuclear Winter, and that you may find this news disappointing. Ending support for the mode was a difficult decision, and not one that we made lightly. We’re still working to provide methods of PVP combat for those who enjoy squaring off against other former Vault Dwellers, and a little later this year, we will release details on how we plan to offer players even more ways to play Fallout 76. Additionally, we’re going to compensate everyone who participated in Nuclear Winter, from those who only joined a single match to our most battle-hardened Overseers.

The game is pretty fun, it does have a solid community and finally I don't agree with a lot of opinions of the specifics of the game said here.

Played some hours and I liked what I saw.
But it's a survival game with foraging, crafting, repair, thirst, hunger, etc.
I'm sure it's perfect for those who dig that kind of management, but I don't have the patience anymore.

I'm terrible at those games. I want to grab -everything- I see, not an even distribution of food/water/materials/ammo/etc...

So I end up over burdened, or short of vital supply X because grabbing 2,000 rounds of ammo for guns I don't have sounded like a good idea somehow.

I really, really wanted this to be a great game but it just wasn't for so many different reasons.
I can't even bring myself to try it because of the arrogance it took for them to do stupid shit like remove NPCs.
Or the completely exploitive in game cash store or lies about release state and quality from tittybabytodd.

I've got to agree with WannaLogAlready about the quality and quantity of ESO, it's probably the best all around mmog (if your into fantasy themes).
Sadly, I won't play ESO because the idiot devs stole my character name I've been using since pre-release for no reason or fault of mine.
Hell, I've never even been accused of cheating much less been warned or banned. In the first year, I must have turned in more than 100 cheaters.
There was a mod/program called Fast Report which made it much easier to catch those bots teleporting around to Resource Nodes.
One of the names I use is Augmenti, so can you guess why my name was banned? It's got a GM in it!
It's literally the name of my forum account, which has never been warned or banned for anything either.
It was a shotgun fix that prevents any name from using gm together, fucking idiots. Middlefinger

I guess this is for people with computers? No way to free trial Fallout 76 on a PS4? I couldn't find any kind of free Fallout 76 in the PS Store anyway.

2012 called wants their console back.

It *should* be for all platforms.
You were correct! Turns out I just don't understand how the PlayStation Store works. Under Fallout 76 Locked and Loaded, there are three purchase options. The one labeled "Trial" is the free F76, but the way it's positioned under a discounted copy for PlayStation Plus subscribers, I thought it was actually a PlayStation Plus trial, not the F76 trial.

Anyway, thanks. Made me look harder. Now I have a new fun (I hope) activity this weekend.

It *should* be for all platforms. Here's what the announcement says:

Starting today, you can download Fallout 76 on your platform of choice to experience the entire game completely free until June 16.

The community is pretty amazing since there really isn't PvP. You have generous players dropping you loot all the time or leaving stuff in suitcases at train stations for you to pickup. Very friendly people!

So people who have raided the dev room with smurf accounts and have way more loot then they need? That's really nice of them.

The biggest problem with the game is the very limited base sizes. I've seen people make some incredible stuff but you can't make anything really grand. In Conan Exiles the size and scale of some of the guild bases out there - on official servers - are mind-boggling big and amazing.

So, since I can't give myself in a few minutes, a few hundreds of the needful things in multiplayer games, I uninstalled.
The only multiplayer I truly love/d is ESO, because it's basically a gigantic months long solo campaign with nobody annoying you.

I wish they added more solo content regularly like they do with Elder Scrolls.

Depends on what you consider regularly, but about half the major updates so far have been free content Other half were this BR mode, daily and seasonal challenges, the level-scaling overhaul, various other feature additions. Next content update is supposed to be in July.
