So why didn't you add additional security before? It's not like EA can plead poverty.
The trick is to blame David the IT intern and wash their hands of it.
This happened to me back in the late 90's when I was interning for an advertising company. They got hacked and my manager decided to blame me, the intern. They threatened me and almost got me expelled from school. Good times.
Did they have proofs that you did it?
They insisted they did, but my advisor called them out hard and demanded they show what they had. Of course they had nothing. I found out months later that the school board called an emergency meeting to discuss expelling me to protect the school from possible litigation. My advisor saved me big time, he was my only advocate.
The whole thing was a farce. My "boss" fucked up and turned the office firewall off because it was creating data connection issues. He forgot to turn it back on at the end of the day and the systems were compromised that night. I came in the next day to panic. They were working on a secret Nokia project and that breach exposed it. To save his job, my boss said that I disabled the firewall and hacked the servers myself. It was the stupidest excuse, and the execs were even dumber to believe it. Why would I do that when I could just steal everything on my workstation?
Anyway, funny thing is I got another job in the same building shortly after. I ran into one of the guys in the bathroom and he asked if I was back to shoot up the place. I laughed it off, said "maybe" and left.
