Elden Ring in January

The grand finale of today's Summer Game Fest presentation was a new trailer from Elden Ring, the fantasy action/RPG in the works at developer FromSoftware and publisher BANDAI NAMCO. This features a game world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, the fantasy author who's never too busy for a side project. The clip is an official gameplay reveal which also unveils the game's release date, saying it is due on January 21, 2022. Here's word on the game:
Featuring a vast and seamless landscape with natural weather and time-of-day progression, players will become fully immersed in the world of ELDEN RING as they begin their journey and choose on their own path. Traverse on foot or horseback, alone or online with friends across grassy plains, suffocating swamps and lush forests. Ascend spiraling mountains, enter breathtaking castles, and witness other sites of grandeur on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title. ELDEN RING’s role-playing and customization options allow players to define their own unique playstyle. Experimentation is encouraged with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities and skills found throughout the world; enticing players to follow previously unexplored progression paths.

ELDEN RING gives players the opportunity to chart their own path through its world. Choose to run headlong into fierce battles against daunting foes or take advantage of the game’s stealth and combat systems to gain the upper hand. It is up to the player to decide how to handle the many challenges that lay before them.

Is this game going to follow the Souls formula, i.e. barely playable on PC without a controller and extra hard to piss off PC gamers even more?

I was going to say the same thing.

The trailer looks awesome and all ,... but how well will it play on PC is what I want to know.

As an avid reader of books, and a great fan of his work (but not his work habits and procrastination) I really appreciate this reference and comment.

If only Valheim had these graphics and creature designs.

Just what we need, yet another Dark Souls clone.

Assuming this is sarcasm, but just in case I hope you realize this is the same company and creator of the 6 “souls” games.

Absolutely can’t wait. Platinumed all 6 Soulsborne games on PS3/PS4 but will likely grab this on Steam thing time around. You can see elements of all From’s prior games going on here.

Regardless, been waiting years for another Souls game, literally the only reason I’d bother to play a single player game at this point. Looks awesome.

I have aged into way too much of a casual gamer to play a Souls game ever again. I have too little gametime and too little patience for that kind of tedious punishment. If this is just a pretty Souls game, that's a big disappointment for me.

This has a very similar mood to the first Dark Souls. I think I'll love this.

This looks friggin' awesome. I've only played (and beaten) Dark Souls 3, but this looks great.

I wish they make a TV series and some games based on the Wild Cards.
