The real issue with this GPU other than not being able to get one for MSRP is the insane power consumption. It’s nearly a 40% increase in power for 10% more performance.

Are these the cards that don't Bitcoin well?
Because if that's the case EVGA shows their Super Premium Platinum Club Members Only card as out of stock.
But at least the one that's available to normal plebs is also oos.
Does that mean the miners don't get to mine?
This is not a paper launch.
Correction: This is technically not a paper launch.

Some seem to be holding off past 9am. Best Buy still shows 'coming soon' at 10:05am.

Evga's site went down under the load again at 9am, but I managed to get a notify order in 30 minutes later, for my friend who I'm building a Blender workstation for. If I can't snag a card for him before I deliver it, I'm going to loan him my old GTX 1080.

It seems to be a fact that both AMD and nVidia have just enough stock on hand to send to reviewers, with scant left over for customers. I'm glad this tactic makes sense for them because it sure makes little sense to me for them to continuously keep announcing GPUs that aren't generally available.
It's kind of a waste of marketing: advertising a product that isn't in stock and won't be for months, perhaps not until next year.

as i understand it, it actually doesn't go on sale until midnight tonight so find your most obscure tech retailer and warm up your f5 buttons!

Best Buy launched the 3070 at 6AM Pacific, that'd be my guess.

you are correct, launch time is in fact 9am EST/6am PST.

Linus used to be interesting. Now I find him to be more of a corporate mouthpiece who is starting to fossilize and who does "stunt reviews" like "Let's build this $150,000 computer and play Minecraft on it!"*

Gamer's Nexus is still my go to for actual coverage because they're pretty honest and forthright.

Except for Linus, who seems to be trying to defend Nvidia's money grab lately, no one is impressed with the 3070 ti. Performance doesn't really warrant the extra $100 (MSRP) and the silicon would have been better used cranking out more 3070s instead of diluting the high end market even more.

Jayz has a point that by delaying the 3070ti announcement to one week after the 3080ti announcement, Nvidia was likely just trying to get everyone to buy a ridiculously over priced card.
Linus has been getting it wrong a lot lately. His coverage of the Apple M1 CPU was atrocious. His hot takes on the state of GPU releases also seems to be self serving. Since there are so many other sources for this kind of news that blow Linus out of the water, I don't pay much mind to him anymore.
Sounds like Linus is due for another tearful apology video.

Its been interesting to see if Linus' is just being a contrarian or if he is really that ego bruised over his foolish take on the 3080ti. Especially when even the 3070ti at a mere $100 more than the $500 of the 3080ti is still a bad deal. Its just less of one.

His middle of the road take during the GPP drama with Nvidia a couple of years ago then switching to the anti-nvidia side when they backed down was illustrative of his worrying still about cheesing off corporate sponsors. Of course, then he was anti-Nvidia when they went after Hardware Unboxed last year.
Linus is in it for the clicks.
He's got employees, a wife and kids to feed (a son and two daughters).
He's good for entertainment.
He knows better than to fuck up that gig and he'd be a fooken idiot if he did.

In the first 4 minute he reiterates what an offensive launch the 3080ti was while being a blatant moneygrab.

Edit
Skipped to the end;
The performance increase is functionally irrelevant and it's very unlikely that you'll notice the increased frame rates.
The 3070 TI is not worth purchasing
(Unless you're scalping.)

Performance increase over what? A 2070, 2080?

Umm, the 3070?

His utility has always been extremely limited. Clearly far more interested in being entertaining than informative. He occassionally does something semi-interesting for the novelty of it, but overall calling his channel "tech tips" is a total misnomer.

3070TI makes sense if you are looking to buy something around a 3070/3080 and you actually have a 3070TI in the cart and able to buy. It makes a lot of sense now.

If they were shipping 10k units worldwide, sending 200 to reviewers would not change much in general availability. The remaining 9800 units would still be snatched up instantly with no chance of getting one at retail price without luck or using a bot.

Heck I'm still on 1070 so a 3070 would be an awesome upgrade however my mobo is too old. I need a complete new build. That and the fact that you cannot find cards anywhere, I guess I'm in no rush.
