I know you understood this was referring to the fact that Apple makes $1,000 phones that are nothing more than computers.đ

Tried to buy e-books from the Kindle app? Canât do that, either.
Send iMessages to someone with an Android phone? Nope. Backup your iPhone to Google Drive? Nope. Get your own iPhone repair parts from Apple? Nope. Transfer your digital life to a different kind of smartphone? Good luck, my friend. When you buy an iPhone, it isnât really yours.

For those that want Apple to win, keep in mind what that means. Apple is arguing that it's okay to prevent access to other stores for "security". And if people don't like it they can use another platform. If this argument wins, then the same thing can be applied to desktops for "security" reasons. Since linux is available as an "open" option, it means Apple and Microsoft now have the legal backing to start blocking Steam and any other 3rd party stores on Mac and Windows.

Apple says itâs protecting our security and privacy, but it has become clear that locking down our iPhones is also about controlling us so Apple can make more money.

I don't see the majority of customers leaving the app store to go to another place to buy their coins, skins, loot boxes etc.
Most consumers don't care about the stores cut, they are out for convenience and price.
They should have the option if they want to, though.
I don't personally see any reason at all why I shouldn't be able to use any internet capable device to go somewhere else and make a purchase independent of the device's native ecosystem. It makes no sense to me why Apple or anyone else should get 30%, or whatever their cut is, of any sales made through an app that they do no development or maintenance on themselves because that app can be only obtained via their store by their own requirement.
emphasis mine

There is no good guy in this legal action. This is two multi-billion dollar corporations fighting over making more billions. Even if either side was completely in the right and wearing a white hat and won this suit utterly, to believe the result will significantly benefit the average consumer is simply ridiculous dreamland thinking...

Anyway, Fuck Epic - I hope they lose this case. Their argument boils down to "Apple is very successful and 30% is mean and greedy and we don't like that please lower it to 12% like we did because reasons". The judge even stated she doesn't understand how Epic wants to resolve the problem.
