Yes, true but we haven't had a Federal elected official win from jail since 1798:

In 2002, former Rep. James Traficant, I-Ohio, took 15 percent of the vote even though he had just started an eight-year sentence for bribery, racketeering and other crimes. Going farther back in history, Matthew Lyon was successful in 1798. He had been convicted of libel, ran for Congress from prison and won.

Even as bad as things are, I don't perceive that changing. Elections in the past were much more wild and woolly.

The only thing I can think to do is have change her Apple ID email address back, but I'm worried that it will lock her out of her new phone.

A customer had a similar issue. I gave up after several visits, but they eventually did get the phone/account/apple id unlocked.
The right genius at an Apple store will be able to reset it. Or get the right person on the phone. good luck

It helps if you know the previous email/apple id, have receipts, a recent dna test and have the patience of Job.

Hopefully one of the apple regulars here "know" the least painful way.
