Out of the Blue

With typical inexplicable fanfare, the NFL has unveiled the full schedule for the 2021/2022 football season. I heard one analyst make a very funny comment about this, apologies for not being sure I remember who said it (pretty sure it was either Peter Schrager or Kyle Brandt). This pointed out that there are a bunch of 10-6 fans who read the schedule every year and rationalize how their team will finish 10-6, regardless how bad they were the previous season. Now that the season is 17 games, will the 10-6 fans become 10-7, or 11-6? I'm guessing the latter. Anyway, I don't fall into that group, the Giants will end up at 17-0. Piece of cake.

I'm a lot closer to Jivaro's position. Greentiger, it would seem to me your personal experience with NFL fans is probably more colored by location (two red states) than any generalization which could be fairly made of all NFL fans. I'm sure many make a similarly bad assumption about the plurality European soccer fans which are "hooligans". All that said, unfortunately you'd be hard pressed to find any population which doesn't contain its fair share of racists.

This skirts closely on "football fans are racists". Americans are realizing their racial insensitivity as a culture, not any one generalization of Americans types of fans. Some folks are in denial...usually the ones that use "woke" as a bad word really often as if learning new things and improving yourself as an individual and a member of society is a bad thing. Some folks like their ignorance and grasp on to it tightly. C19 kinda showed us that, if we didn't accept it already.

A lot of people are racist. Period. We have all had bouts of insensitivity or whatever as well; but I'd be lying to say that I didn't believe that as a general rule--coming from Texas, Nebraska, I've seen a lot of negativity coming from football fans in particular.

Wonderful. Now all the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers will go maskless and lie "I got my vaccine~!" There's no way to verify b/c HIPAA.
31.2% of texans are fully vaccinated. I'm afraid with this news that's the last mask that will ever be worn in the state of Texas.

I haven't watched an NFL game in 3 seasons. I used to be a pretty big fan and a regular follower of the league, too. I like football, but the NFL sucks all the fun out of the viewer experience. I gave up and honestly, I don't miss it at all.

Given all the political woke bullshit they keep trying to force on people and the fact that there are more ads than actual game being shown and I'm getting pretty done with the NFL too.

What about the CFL?

It's like watching American high school football. Seriously, it's not even nearly as good as US college football. I've found myself watching more college ball over the last several years anyway. I may look into catching a few games down there this Fall depending on where we're at by then.

Yep, I agree. Completely hate the Thursday games. It is pure and simple nothing but a tv money grab. Outside the money, it is nothing but negatives for the league.

I knew it would happen eventually, but I am so disappointed to see the NFL season lengthened. It has been 16 games since the 78/79 season, which basically means ever since I have paid any kind of real attention to it. *sigh*

They can hardly keep star players on the field for 16 regular season games. Since they added Sunday night and Thursday night games, I've reached the oversaturation point. I don't look forward to the weekend games like I used to.

I can only think, for most games, week 17 is going to be just as 'exciting' as week 4 of previous pre-seasons.
I got nothin'.

I swear I posted here year ago that the WHO was talking bullshit about the virus not being airborne. We even had German test studies showing it was CLEARLY airborne and not just (larger) droplets that sink to the ground when we investigated how it MASSIVELY spread in a deepfreeze butchery enviroment where airborne droplets too large CAN NOT EVEN EXIST.

Or basically, the WHO was spreading fakescience for MONTHS

From the article:

On the video call, tensions rose. At one point, Lidia Morawska, a revered atmospheric physicist who had arranged the meeting, tried to explain how far infectious particles of different sizes could potentially travel. One of the WHO experts abruptly cut her off, telling her she was wrong, Marr recalls. His rudeness shocked her. “You just don’t argue with Lidia about physics,” she says.

Well, that's pretty great.

The entire article is bad for your blood pressure if you kept up with ACTUAL science a year and 4 months ago - the who was completely pseudo-scientific and this article explains where the bullshit came from that NH95 masks don't help... just.. so much .. .. just.. wow

My favorite quote about this
Thinking it might help her overcome this resistance, she’d try from time to time to figure out where the flawed 5-micron figure had come from. But she always got stuck. The medical textbooks simply stated it as fact, without a citation, as if it were pulled from the air itself.

Li’s team had concluded, therefore, that the public health establishment had it backward and that most colds, flu, and other respiratory illnesses must spread through aerosols instead (of much larger, much shorter range droplets)

Just, beyond words.... please get rid of the WHO right now. Entire decades of health information and teachings were bullshit thanks to the WHO
