Out of the Blue

So the Jacksonville Jaguars were on the clock for the first pick in the draft for 116 days, but it still took them almost the full 15 minutes to submit their pick in last night's NFL draft? Okay, I guess it's understandable to want to bask in the spotlight when it's shining on you, even if that's because you had the worst record in the league.

Forgot to mention, another thing to consider about Fields -- the history of Ohio State QBs in the NFL is not a great one. Ohio State is a power house which is often run oriented, both of those things could make a QB look better than they really are. That said, I know virtually nothing about what Ohio State has done during the last two years, maybe they were not as heavily reliant on the run as they often are. Only time will tell...

Evaluation of rookies will definitely be hampered by the spotty schedules played by so many college teams in the 2020 season. For instance, look at Justin Fields -- only eight games in 2020, a total of 225 pass attempts. Will he be successful, let alone a star, in the NFL? Maybe, maybe not -- it is very hard to say.

That's a valid point. Helps support the idea that there is value for those trading commodities from this year's draft for next year's.

so any fantasy players have any insights into offensive standouts of the first round? or any round really. i love ferreting out undervalued rookies in fantasy cuz their upside can be enormous and most can be drafted well after the starters have been taken. or another value proposition - any second year players on your favorite team poised for a big breakout?

WarPig has the right idea. Although despite the NFL being the sport I most closely follow I find the draft night to be totally overblown nonsense. I've never even been tempted to watch it. Despite my opinion, the production around the NFL draft has only gotten bigger over the years. And this from a guy who has participated in an NFL fantasy league in 20 of the last 24 years (skipped 2003-2006).

I think a lot of it has to do with the TV coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if Goodell could have gone up there immediately with the pick but is waiting for his cue from ESPN and the NFL Network. Both networks have a certain amount of video and various talking heads to get through. After all, they do have a lot to get through - you've got to show the reaction of the player (and family), show video of the player, and then predict the next pick.

It's fun... I enjoy it.

Since 2010, starting QBs for Chicago:

Jay Cutler
Todd Collins
Caleb Hanie
Josh McCown
Jason Campbell
Jimmy Clausen
Matt Barkley
Brian Hoyer
Mitchell Trubisky
Mike Glennon
Chase Daniel
Nick Foles

I'm guessing Justin Fields will be better than all of those guys, but even if he is the QB can not do it alone.

Clearly he wants, and deserves IMO, another Superbowl ring. If they had helped him out last season they very well could have done that. As for the 2 years left on his contract he can do the bare minimum. Make sure he plays very conservatively to protect himself. If your starting QB doesn't want to play for you anymore you're better off trading him or he'll tank the team.
To quote Mae West or WIlliam Munny, " 'deserve' has got nothing to do with it."

I'd like to see the Bears come back. With the exception of the Vikings the NFC North has always been my fave division.
It is the Bears, their management/ownership is only slightly better than Cleveland's. It might happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

So maybe Cuba?

With the Russian Puppet out of office now, I am hoping that the Biden administration will unleash the NSA against the GRU. It would not surprise me to learn in the future that there is a secret compact between Russia and China to work toward the weakening of the US on more than just an economics front. We, the US, definitely have counters to groups like Hafnium and Kamacite, they just need to be allowed to do their thing. It's possible they're already doing their thing and have been doing so for the last 100 days or less. Of course, we'll never know in any timely fashion because that's how it works.

Interestingly enough, for those that manage enterprise systems or enterprise-grade equipment at home, we've been seeing Colombia become sort of a jumping off point for Russian and Chinese actors. With Colombia's newest dictator being sorely strapped for cash, it would make sense that he's taking money for access. At work and home, I've seen a reduction in .cn and .ru attempts while seeing a rise in .co attempts.

Neither Russia nor China can stand up to us militarily so a multipronged, covert operations campaign is their only real, viable option to attack the US.

I'm not a Bear fan, but I live in Bear country and it will be interesting to see how well Justin Fields works out. Chicago's long, bad, history with QBs is matched only by perhaps Cleveland. IMHO, they should sit him for at least the first half of the season. No reason to rush him out there -- unless he is simply so freaking outstanding in practice and pre-season he warrants the start. But even then I'd advise caution. Better to not use him when you could have, than to use him too soon and have him or his confidence broken.

Rodgers has no leverage. His only move would be to sit out, which isn't much of an option at 37. I'd bet on Rodgers staying at GB, he might not be happy about it but there isn't anything he can really do about it. The GB management presumably wants more than they can get for Rodgers since there was a rumor SF offered the #3 pick. Not sure I believe that, but if it is true it definitely means Rodgers is going nowhere.

Yeah Blues, that dragging out the pick by the Jags was ridiculous. Everyone knew they were taking Lawrence.

I hate it when teams just drag this process out. The second day and third are best because of the time only allowed to take for a pick.

A March report from the National Academy of Sciences found that "directed, pulsed radiofrequency energy" was the most likely cause of the strange set of symptoms. While the report was carefully written not to overstate its findings, it offered some of the clearest public evidence to date that the incidents could be attacks, attributing the afflictions to "pulsed" or "directed" energy.

Yeah, those microwave attacks are serious. They can really fuck people up long term. The US Military has experimented with that stuff for a long time themselves - both as a weapon and as a means of crowd control. They really need to find who's doing it, and my money is easily on the GRU.

That is a pretty mind boggling ruling in Germany - in a good way. Can't imagine that happening anywhere else outside the EU.

Gotta give that much to the Chinese at any rate, they really know how to create poetic names for things.

Good news they got the pricks in the dognapping. They're fucked now - or shortly will be upon reaching prison where they belong.
