Out of the Blue

I feel pretty lucky to be online this morning after a tornado celebrated yesterday's Earth Day by touching down in our general area on Wednesday. As the saying goes, I'd seen this movie before, and I immediately suspected a tornado when the wind suddenly kicked up waves on the pond, which is normally as still as a, well, pond. As I watched, I saw a chunk of a nearby tree break loose, even through the eye of the tornado was actually miles from here. News reports yesterday confirmed the tornado. The power did go out, but unlike the damage from last year's twister, it popped right back on again, hence my gratitude. This also gave a newfound appreciation of Ms. Duck after questioning the wisdom of the spot where she nested. We checked, and her choice turned out perfectly suited to protecting the eggs from all the wind, rain, and hail the storm wrought. Clever girl!

So just started with Domino's last night, on behalf of anyone delivering food to you 1)please tip, 2)please get stupid drunk or high before ya order because you'll tip WAY more then ya should, and it makes the driver people happy!

On behalf of people who tip generously, I have yet to experience a professional delivery, and as such have stopped using these services.

What does a "professional delivery" look like? Is there something more than showing up promptly with the correct order? I don't know whereabouts you live but where I'm at on a normal street in a normal suburb its pretty rare that I experience any kind of problem with delivery.

Here's a sample of the different services I have received on various occasions based on tipping generously.

Hot food is NOT hot.
The order takes an hour and a half to arrive (I watched the car via GPS pick up my order then take a 1.5 to get to my house, the food is cold by the time it arrives).
The driver drops my order on the ground (with a thud, not cool with 2 liter soda).
One delivery was missing a slice of pizza.

I tip for good service, not because it's a requirement. If drivers cannot bother to give me a minimum viable level of service, I stop using the services. Doubly so if they steal my food!

:Like Los Vegas? (ok not enough caffeine actually typed New Vegas), or any other Cruise Ship, luxury cars or planes or blah blah blah blah (insert expensive stuff here).

I ridiculously over tip pizza delivery drivers (actually all delivery people) because I delivered pizzas for Dominos in Miami back in the 80s, for 6 months when I was between career changes and flat ass broke (between two careers that paid $35k). That was a wake up call. It's perhaps the most thankless job in existence, second only to waiting on tables, maybe. To make it extra fun, that was also at a time when there was a serial killer in Miami who was murdering pizza delivery guys. Made it all the more exciting when someone would only tip me the coin change to round it up to a dollar for a $30 delivery.

You have my sympathies.

Uh yeah, I wasn't serious. Barring a significant unforeseen scientific breakthrough we will never have interstellar spacecraft. At least not anything like we see in Star Trek and Star Wars, the best we can expect are generational ships, maybe.

Impossible under the current capitalist system, we'll go extinct first.

In a resource based economy tho... It would be possible, but no one would be sick enough with a hoarding disorder and no one would be discompassionate enough to support him/her in such a mentally sick endeavor.

So, let's just say it's never gonna happen. #CalledIt

Hope you can find better employment soon, but I'm with you on the tipping. Tipped $5 on my $21 pizza a couple of days ago.

Actually since I've had my vax's... the money is good, I'm constantly on the move so I'm losing my covid weight, I'm getting the social interaction I... "need" for my personality type. I wish I was as big a drink as I like to think I pretend to be, because I get along with 99% of the people on this planet, and those wonderful 3am drunken bastards tip amazing well and invite me to come back to these amazing after hours parties that are... not sure how to say this without sounding ego tistical but they have money to burn and just want fun people there to talk to or hang out with because they've dealt with stuck up stuffy white elitiests all day.. if that makes sense.

But right now I'm sorta like Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. I'm in a stupid easy job with decent money and very little responsibility, and I'm happy. It's like when I worked at Lego (well I actually have to do work here) but at Lego... as they say if you love the job you never work a day in your life.... this is 75% of that.Plus my car smells awesome during work hours. (except for pizza with Olives which are just GOD AWEFUL NASTY THINGS).
