CD PROJEKT Rakes in the Cash

Despite problems with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, GamesIndustry.biz reports that the sci-fi RPG propelled CD PROJEKT to its most profitable year ever. Here's a bit on Johnny Silverhand's Midas touch:
For the full year, CD Projekt brought in a record PLN 2.14 billion ($562 million) in consolidated sales revenues. That number is more than four times what it reported for 2019, and more than two-and-a-half times the company's previous record of PLN 798 million ($210 million), set in 2015 with the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The company set a bottom-line record as well, reporting a net profit of PLN 1.15 billion ($303 million). That more than triples the company's previous profit record of PLN 342 million ($89.8 million), also set in 2015.

I don't think the Cyberpunk launch issues are going to affect things in the long run. It's just going to spread out the sales more than they may like. I don't even want to buy the game until I get a RTX 3080 or better, so I could easily be a year or more out before that happens. I don't know why anyone would want to play this game on low detail/low res, but that's what most of the beta testing gamers are doing.

It was the Witcher games, particularly the Witcher 3, that put CDPR firmly on the map. The success of CP2077 has almost nothing to do with CP2077, itself, but was obtained by people who believed that CDPR would never market a game inferior to Witcher3, in content and bugs, and that is what propelled CDPR to their record sales this year, imo. Some 13 million people (strangely) pre-ordered the game on the basis of CDPR's reputation with the Witcher games, alone. It will be a litmus test with the release of their next game--whenever and whatever that will be. Plus the market is much larger now than it was in 2015, they did not release W3 for consoles (immediately--or did they?), with many more people playing games in 2020 instead of socializing with their friends and relatives because of the C-19 fear/scare/irrational panic. CDPR's next game will tell the tale.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

Well the problem is Cyberpunk 2077 has a few really cool things.. like the city itself. The BIG fail is how shallow it all is. The physics system is a joke, NPC interaction is a joke.. most of the stores and sales places you cant actually use.

stuff like that.

I went from a 980 Ti to a 3090 mainly for this game and it still doesn't play everything on ultra at 1440p at constantly 60+ FPS.. I get around 45 to 90 FPS in most places i was able to drive through.

Anyways, I played about 2 hours and left it since I want them to fix the bugs and just wanted to see how beautiful it looked.

This is exactly why it sold so well. I pre-ordered, it's been sitting installed on my steam while I wait for the first couple DLCs.. I'm good with the wait and I absolutely loved Witcher 1,2,3. I cannot stress how good Witcher 3: Heart of Stone is. I'll see if I get my money worth on this.

After the Witcher 1, 2 and 3 they deserve the $, but they have to go back to what made them great. Still waiting to buy it and I might as well wait for 3090s, 3080s our equivalants to be available. The few perks of getting old lol.

Intersting side note: I saw an article about an official cyberpunk nerf gun.
Not sure if its for collectors, but I assumed this was a mature game, kids won't demand something with no link to their entertainment univers (tv, cartoons, games etc.)

I'm gonna need a source on that, I'm only seeing Fortnite, Overwatch, Halo, Star Wars on their website. There are a million home-made toy guns for various cosplay purposes, and I'm inclined to believe a particularly well-made Cyberpunk one was the subject of this article.

Your problem is probably that CPU. I play it MAXED with DLSS on Quality at 4k and it's super smooth. Not sure the FPS, but it's steady and I've literally never had a crash. If I put DLSS on Balanced, it seems slightly smoother, but hardly noticeable, tbh.

And who the hell buys this game on Steam and not GOG? Worried Maybe Steam's DRM is impacting the game's performance somehow...

As others have stated, NO ONE would imagine that the dev's would release the product in this bad of shape. Witcher 3 had it's problems at launch but no where near the same level. Also remember they were doing remote gaming for media type events so you also didn't see the performance issues as you would on varying hardware.

I was/am having a completely different experience, the PC game is very good (not necessarily great) but buggy. Where as it sounds like 70% of the major issues were console related. It's not like I haven't played buggy games for the 30 years. It's more common to play buggy games than a completed game (i.e. really made it out of beta).
We on PC (honestly don't know if consoles participate) do beta testing now with EA games all the time. Not only that, we often pay for the privilege.
So in my mind this game success was always inevitable.

I had a few performance issues at first but I guess I was fortunate as they werent game-breaking for me. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with the game and still have some missions left.

Explain to me how their police is ANY different then GTA aside from the DISTANCE they spawn. I'll wait. And don't red herring this with well GTA police get in cars or other nonsense. The topic you brought up is they spawn on you and that is what I am addressing.

Not that I'm happy with 2077's rough launch or making excuses for cdpr... but, maybe it's faded from the collective conscious but Witcher releases sucked pretty hard too until they patched the problems. Not 2077 bad but still real bad.

Yeah, that pretty much describes social media in a nutshell doesn't it? I love YTs algorithms where the most insipid social media and "stars" warrant millions of followers and views. It only further reinforces my belief that mankind is doomed and it can't come soon enough.
