CD PROJEKT Rakes in the Cash

Despite problems with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, GamesIndustry.biz reports that the sci-fi RPG propelled CD PROJEKT to its most profitable year ever. Here's a bit on Johnny Silverhand's Midas touch:
For the full year, CD Projekt brought in a record PLN 2.14 billion ($562 million) in consolidated sales revenues. That number is more than four times what it reported for 2019, and more than two-and-a-half times the company's previous record of PLN 798 million ($210 million), set in 2015 with the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The company set a bottom-line record as well, reporting a net profit of PLN 1.15 billion ($303 million). That more than triples the company's previous profit record of PLN 342 million ($89.8 million), also set in 2015.

So in GTA5 police do get spawned into the map for the more stars you gain, but Rockstar has been very good about having them pop in in a natural progression. Not to mention there are ALWAYS cops and sheriff's on the map even if they aren't in your line of sight. Mechwarrior 5 and Cyberpunk will have baddies/cops spawn IN YOUR LINE OF SIGHT, literally out of nowhere. IN GTA, NPC's like police/military/sheriff's are always in the map, with more being spawned in again in a natural way.

I don't know about that.
Sure, they spawn at a distance, but if you're hammering it down the freeway the cops come way too fast to feel natural. They have to because the driving Ai is so lousy R* takes the easy way out and has pursuers spawn in rather than keep up and manage cornering.
The are some mods that try to make car chases more fun and not have the police simply come at you head-on at the higher wanted levels, but I was disappointed in GTAV's spawning chase system.

I consider myself among the greatest fans of all Deus Ex games. I couldn't get into CP either. In fact, the whole memory of the game is an inexplicable bitter/sour/bad one... and it's not even like I didn't enjoy it at all.

I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again. CP2077 is a diamond in the rough. It's not like Anthem, it's not like FO76, it's not like a dozen other high profile games that were launched in the last 5 years that turned out to be snooze fests. This game has HUGE potential. It's already great, but very buggy and it definitely should not have been released in that state. Still this is one of the few recent big budget games that I played from start to finish (around a 50-60h playthrough) and enjoyed every minute of it. Once they fix it up some more, add more detail to the open world, and improve some systems (like the mostly useless police force for example) and it will blossom into that diamond. Im taking a nice long break from it, but hopefully in about a year or so I will come back to it and get lost in it's world again.

Well, they're working on it, maybe it will be fun in 2077. I found the gameplay boring, the story totally non-immersive. Choices you made either improving your character or in the world had little and no effect respectively.

I don't think the Cyberpunk launch issues are going to affect things in the long run. It's just going to spread out the sales more than they may like. I don't even want to buy the game until I get a RTX 3080 or better, so I could easily be a year or more out before that happens. I don't know why anyone would want to play this game on low detail/low res, but that's what most of the beta testing gamers are doing.

I played it at 4k on a 3080 (with a modern 5000 series AMD cpu), it was the PERFECT match. Stayed above 45 almost the whole time, and I ran it on ultra everything including all ultra RTX effects. Once you see them in action, it's hard to turn off, but anything above 45 FPS feels smooth when using a controller IMO.

The other thing that really made the city pop was using an HDR screen, mine was an OLED tv, which was just breathtaking, but any HDR display would make a big difference, as long as its "real" HDR and not "fake" HDR.

This is actually a very bad result, and it had a bad impact on their stock price : https://www.google.com/finance/quote/CDR:WSE

If you don't know anything about financial results, don't read the reports, look at the charts. The share price has been divided by two since the release of the Cyberpunk.

Not that I'm happy with 2077's rough launch or making excuses for cdpr... but, maybe it's faded from the collective conscious but Witcher releases sucked pretty hard too until they patched the problems. Not 2077 bad but still real bad.

I had a few performance issues at first but I guess I was fortunate as they werent game-breaking for me. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with the game and still have some missions left.

I was/am having a completely different experience, the PC game is very good (not necessarily great) but buggy. Where as it sounds like 70% of the major issues were console related. It's not like I haven't played buggy games for the 30 years. It's more common to play buggy games than a completed game (i.e. really made it out of beta).
We on PC (honestly don't know if consoles participate) do beta testing now with EA games all the time. Not only that, we often pay for the privilege.
So in my mind this game success was always inevitable.
