I can only hope they handle it better than Ritual did with their deservedly short-circuited SiN Episodes experiment. That one was supposed to have dynamically scaling difficulty (in terms of enemy damage dealing and armor worn by them). It only ended up being frustrating because there was a bug by which the difficulty once scaled up would not slide back down even if you were failing.

Yes this is the one I remember best... because of how annoying it was.

Crack some headshots on the easy guys at the beginning and suddenly every enemy is ratcheted to Insane difficulty.

These big studios/publishers must have their own teams of psychologists coming up with the equivalent of patting the player on the head so that he buys more cosmetics. To me this patent suggests that if someone plays longer and feels good about their win rate they'll reward themselves, and the game will make it abundantly clear that you can purchase such fancy rewards from their shop!

Really?
I loved that game to start, but once the heavy armor guys came it crumbled. My memory is mostly running around desperately seeking ammo to kill ammo sponges and frequently dying because none was to be found, and E1 didn't include any powerful guns. It was one of my worst fps experiences.

Edit - I haven't seen any documentation of this bug, but this makes sense. Reading, the scaling adjusted the ammo available. I apparently also made a post almost word-for-word what I said here, except it was 2014 and I had a clearer recollection of the game. Apparently, to finish the Episode I took to dying just to refill my ammo. I'd spend all that ammo, then die again just for more. A bug makes more sense than that being the actual game design, but it still turned a great (though very short) shooter into an abomination.

The other shoe yet to drop here is just how EA plans to tie this in with P2W.

Nothing new here RTS games have had difficulty scaling for years. It games where you have progression and character/or army development, it punishes success, so you are conditioned to playing sloppy and purposely taking as many losses as possible while still winning a battle/fight instead of skillfully obliterating the opposition while taking few losses.

No ulterior motives I'm sure. EA just wants to make sure you're having fun.

Quantity not quality is what I look for when I game. With the added benefit that the longer you play the more likely chance that you’ll be getting some of them delicious loot boxes.

Sid Meir already managed that decades ago with a little game called Civilization.

So many games I've screamed at the monitor "Just let me win!". If this becomes widespread it will change gaming as I've known it.
