The CMPs they have released so far are based on old Turing designs.

Which means they could be sold as... Geforce RTX 2000 series cards instead of being sold as e-waste!

...

Not sure, but IIRC they are actually GTX1650 or GTX1660 GPUs. No raytracing included.

Same thing, then they could be sold as such and not as e-waste.

Still happy with my RTX2060 from July 2019-ish, and that was $515 CDN before tax. I have a hard time spending more than that on a single component (and that card was their base RTX offering), so today's prices are simply outrageous.

Probably no upgrade for me or my spouse's PC until 2022 or later. Off-topic but I'm thinking of migrating to a thin n light gaming laptop instead. Game streaming from desktop to tablet works alright, but quite often I encounter a glitch which forces me to the desktop to deal with it. Easier to just play from a laptop dgpu and dial settings way back.

Heh. Yeah, I picked up a 1080ti used from KX a couple of years ago, and was planning on keeping that for a few more years at least. Although I'm curious about ray tracing, the card otherwise does everything I need, so I'm happy with it.

Well, yes, in the literal sense.

I mean, Nvidia at least is blatantly selling cards outside the PC gamer market, in addition to whatever bot buying/gray market buying of cards is going on. So the shortage is worse for our side of the market than it would be sans cryptocoins, but I guess that ship has long since sailed. :|

Nvidia is selling binned stuff for miner cards, most of it is rejects that you don't want anyway. The demand for the 30xx cards is just absolutely bonkers in general, this wouldn't really improve supply.

You're assuming the existence of over-priced, mining-specific GPUs are taking chips that would otherwise be plugged into the most in-demand new gaming cards, but that's not really the case at this time. The CMPs they have released so far are based on old Turing designs, the TU116 and TU106, which is most likely what that $30M purchase involved. If they paid $18.75 per MH, by my estimate that's either ~$560/ea for ~53k of the 30HX model (based on GTX 1650/60) or ~$750/ea for ~40k of the 40HX (based on RTX 2060/70), or some combination of the two. Any of it seems like a pretty terrible volume rate to me, but we all know these mining corps operate on a different value scale than gamers. By the way, if recent reports are true and they are ramping up production of the GTX 1650 again, that is something that probably would not be happening without them lighting those old 12nm fires again to feed the crypto demand.

I had check EVGA's list after reading this bullshit and seeing MoreLuckThanSkill's link. Holy shit, I see now why Redeye9 said the EVGA list is dead.

According to PC Partpicker there isn't a single fucking 6800 series or even 5700 series card available in Canada. Just went through a bunch of cards - old and new - on Canada Computers website and there isn't a single one in stock. This is fucked up. I need a new card. Seriously time to outlaw crypto and get governments to start investing in fab plants at home.

Is it really a shortage (for video cards) if they are selling thousands or maybe millions of cards directly to CryptoCoin miners, in addition to the scalping/hoarding going on? From a few days ago.
