What the FUCK, don't back out of releasing Dune on HBO Max now, you fucking jokers!

Also, nice to see Cryptocoin insanity continues, unabated, literally burning up the Earth for fictional coins. Nice work, humanity.

No, I'm afraid not. I've enjoyed the first season quite a bit and I'm pretty happy a second & now confirmed third season is coming. I am neutral on Star Trek: Michael Burnham. Season 2, despite having 20 page list of flaws, was probably the best of the first three seasons thanks solely to Pike. I also agree with a lot of Redlettermedias take on it.

Picard - there was a lot of room for improvement. Where I have to disagree is that there was not one single character in Picard Season 1, except perhaps the Romulans Laris and Zhaban @ the Picard Winery I had any interest in. Cautiously optimistic for fan service Q and Season 2 but not convinced they won't completely ruin everything. If they haven't already.

I'll of course give Prodigy and Strange New Worlds a shot.

As far as I'm concerned, Discovery and Picard both continue the tradition of exploring just how terrible Star Trek can be. Ugh.

As for Dune, I'm cautiously optimistic. I had low expectations for BR2049 and it was surprisingly good. However, other post-Lynch attempts at Dune have failed pretty miserably. It seems like the ultimate test for filmmakers. Hopefully DV has made something good. I wish Lynch hadn't deviated from the book as much, but ultimately his version has it where it counts and it's aged surprisingly well. I wouldn't be surprised if it remained unsurpassed forever.

And I can't stand Discovery, but I quite enjoyed Picard. It wasn't perfect, but at least it had characters I cared about and an interesting story. It reminded me of the Star Trek novels I used to read as a teen. Thankfully we still have both series, so we can all complain about Star Trek.

Can we at least all agree that Lower Decks is terrible?

I am trying to stay grounded, but it's difficult to not get excited about Denis version of Dune. I loved the whole Dune book series as a teenager, loved the 80's movie and I love every movie that I have seen from Denis Villeneuve (especially Blade runner 2049).

Match made in heaven

I guess my biggest issue is that they decided to split the first book into two movies, with no guarantee of the second movie getting made. I mean, BR2049 didn't make box office, what are the chances Dune is going to make enough to get a second movie, especially if it ends up simultaneously releasing on Hbo Max, going against what the production company and director want?

So, as a huge Dune fan, I'm just kind of bummed that we may get a masterfully created adaptation that just ends when *spoilers* Paul and Jessica get to the Fremen. And we don't get to see the water of life, sandworm ride, and all the inner sietch stuff.

All the art and all the trailers so far for this Dune wanna-bee display the worst casting decisions since Hayden Christensen in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

Another emo teen girl poster boy, gag me with a spoon.

I though the recent Bladerunner was more of a long form music video despite the actors doing their best to flesh out a rather lightweight script.

No I can wait for this version of Dune until it hits the bargain bin.

He's about 3 years older than Kyle Mclachlan was, and about as emo teen poster boy as he was, as well.

I love Star Trek and I can handle Discovery just fine. But Picard? Terrible. Red Letter Media's review was spot on. I like the idea of more Q, but not in Picard's universe.

It's hard for me to get hyped for something that is 5 months out at the earliest. If the pandemic issue is taken care of by then, then yeah this might be the first movie I go to see in the theatre in years (literally years) but if it isn't (and it doesn't seem to be happening in Europe, where vaccination is going slower than the speed the virus is actually mutating at) then it won't really matter that much where I see it or even if I see it....

IIRC, this is one of two Dune movies he made out of the first book. I like Villeneuve's style but up to now, he made really good movies that few people actually watched. I am afraid that soon he will have to work on smaller, midbudget productions that will limit his vision. Then again - these are the forces of "the market" regulating everything, including arts. We want it this way, right?

And the best comment award goes to:

"Q new power is to summon 18 cannons to shoot down a fleet of borg cubes that are all racing around Los Angeles for the right to be kings of the street. Picard will transform into a truck that is also a Borg cube and also is a gun and can shoot hyperspace bullets into the fleet of ten thousand shuttlecraft that all spill out of the Enterprise-XX's small shuttleport. Geordie Laforge is married to Wesley Crusher, they have seven dead children and everyone gets decapitated onscreen in detail. We finally have the purest form of Roddenberry's vision." - Matt Doyle

About Dune, reserving my judgement until I watch it, could be good, could be bad, we'll see.

Maybe? I dunno. I'm gonna watch it, but I'll more than likely always prefer Lynch's vision of Dune, even though it deviated severely from the books... Though nowadays, seems like many adaptations veer off into their own thing, if you think about it...

As to why the preference, I really liked the look of the sets, costumes and technology. I also get why they made some of the changes.
