The Division 2 Major Update Plans

The Division 2 – The Road Ahead is a post from the development team of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 with a roadmap for the action/RPG. Ubisoft Massive includes details on a collaboration with Ubisoft Bucharest for new content coming later this year:
In the next major update, we are looking to bring a game mode that is entirely new to the franchise. Along with the game mode, we are investigating new ways to progress your agent with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability. We will be revealing more about what lies ahead as the update gets closer.

The development of this new update is still in its early stages and will take several months to complete. As a result, our next major update is currently scheduled for release late 2021 at the earliest. We will be taking this time to make sure we bring a meaningful change to the game.

Man, reading other's comments on here, it's depressing that people don't even know about it... I was always sad that it was only really full for the first week, then hard to find matches. It was ahead of its time. Launched with the 1.5 patch I think? Back in like 2015. I mean you can still play it right now, but good luck finding a full lobby.

Every royale after that just fell flat for me, this was pre-PUBG too.

Hrm, I didin't really classify Division 1 Survival (or whatever it was called) mode as Battle Royale, because it seemed like you never fought any human players until the last few minutes, it was avoiding dying from the cold and killing mobs 98% of the time. Also, starting from zero gear, in a game all about your gear, wasn't great to me. You definitely seem to fall into the very vocal minority that loved that mode though; whenever i look on the Division reddit, there are always people lamenting Division 2 didn't have some evolution of that mode. Who knows, maybe Massive is finally doing something like that for Division 2?

The thing is different people like different things for different reasons. What a reviewer thinks about a game is almost irrelevant; just show me the game and I'll decide if it's for me. That's why I can watch a video on a game and not be able to tell you who posted it an hour later.

This is a two way street and you have to just get multiple sources and do you homework if money is an object and you want to make the right gaming decisions for yourself.

The two way street is Streamers that love fucking everything they play, like netflix 4.5 stars and higher for nearly everything. To me it feels like they are simply an advertising branch of the company, grabbing cash to tell you once again, the game is good after a very short time playing, honeymoon period euphoria or not. To me streamers you have to judge on how long they play after release or games the play well after release. Otherwise, games good (once gain!), play it for a day or two, never to be seen again on the channel, feels like a "we've been had job" on too many of these games.

I do agree though a lot of games are better than the initial consensus and that games can really be polished up after release if supported well and to me it only matters how good the game is at "this time" for the new player.

Can we please just have Survival back? Please? All I've wanted.

The VA of the protagonist just isn't bad at all. It's actually remarkably good imo, relatively or no. There's a stoicism to it that is quite deliberate as I figured out as I figured his character out a bit further into the demo. There was one cringy moment when he was screaming while being affected by that magical storm, but I think that was misdirection from the studio and not the voice actor. The female VA was also bad-ass and quite similar to femshep.

Anyway, to all fence-sitters: Outriders is Mass Effect 2 & 3 combat with a Division loot system. If that doesn't sound like shit to you, just give it a shot.
I nearly passed this diamond in the rough and it's a damn blast.

I'm still early on and plan to play today, but lack of polish to me is the main thing that stands out, doesn't mean my mind can't change or the release will be cleaned up. I'll probably play this at some point, just not the $60 one and it will be better by the time I do.

Kinda sorta off-topic, but if anyone hasn't tried the OUTRIDERS demo yet... try it now! I almost didn't try it because of the fucking jaded reviewers everywhere, who compare the game with The Division, complain a bit about the cover system and basically repeat that whine for 15 minutes and call it a wrap.

Fun part? OUTRIDERS isn't anything like The Division. The fact I haven't heard a single reviewer mention Mass Effect makes me believe I can do a better job than most of them. Because OUTRIDERS' gameplay is dead-center almost exactly like Mass Effect (2/3). The Trickster is a Vanguard copy, and that's completely fine. You survive as the Trickster by staying in the middle of battle, killing enemies close range and -- and this is also exactly like the ME Vanguard -- by using your powers against the enemies to generate your shield which keeps you safe.

Oh, the reviewers I've listened to also managed to somehow complain about the story. Finally a looter-shooter with a good story and a cool protagonist that is so anti-PC and classical in his tropes that it's ironically refreshing. Man, the way he shot a disarmed criminal point-blank in the face and walked away with the line "Worst fucking day..." had me giggle enthousiastically. He also flirts with every hot chick in the demo and stomps the face of the worst sadist (also disarmed) the demo introduced into the ground. Simply glorious.

Meh, actually have to say I wouldn't mind seeing a BR mode for both Division games, as long as it's a "take nothing with you" game style.

The Division 1 was actually one of the first games to get a Royale mode, and it was really REALLY fun. Probably the most fun I've ever had playing a Royale game.

It was only 24 players, everyone spawned around the periphery of the whole map, there was a blizzard where you'd freeze in seconds, so you had to move from heat source to heat source like burning barrels, or indoors. There was tons of enemy AI roaming around that you could loot for getter gear, but also cosmetic clothes had "heat" ratings, letting you stay out in the blizzard for longer. There was one excavation helicopter the exfiltrated in 60 minutes in the middle of the Dark Zone in the middle of the map. There were bosses and other things to do to get a higher score, but turning the whole map into a Dark Zone was so fun.

I'm kinda hoping that they bring it back, that'd make me reinstall. SO FUN. Shame it's only 24 players, but still, I'm reinstalling just in case.

Battle Royale is most likely impossible in the Division 2 engine, probably Division 1 engine version also. The game can barely handle instanced 12 player pvp, and 8 player 'raids.'

I really hope they don't spend a ton of time/effort/money on some Survival mode; I know a vocal majority wants survival bullshit, but most players don't want to regrind everything (for an increased level cap) let alone regrind everything every time you play, in survival mode.

Hopefully whatever the new mode is, it caters to solo or small team coop, they've wasted enough time and effort on Raids and PvP. Based on their announcement, we won't see it until 2022 though.

The story bits with agent Keener (the main villain) were beyond terrible. I've not seen such a boring, formulaic baddie in quite some time. The rest of the game is really good though.

Warlords is good but more along the 29-35 dollar range. Was very impressed with it (nice use of vertical space).

Which is nice because I've been itching to play again from fresh. Wish the Warlords of New York expansion went on sale more often though because I don't know if it's worth $40CAD although I am sure I can play it enough to get the most out of it.
