Yeah, 3 isn't a deal breaker, just a strange pick. I mainly play with one or two friends when I play L4D2, KF2 or Deep Rock Galactic. People I know that I don't mind speaking to in Teamspeak during a game. With randos, I prefer not to use Voip at all. You really don't need it in these games if everyone knows what they're doing. Nothing like having some bozo with an open mic yelling at his wife, or a ten year old player screaming repeatedly, no matter how maturely they play, to take you out of the game.

Personally I think 3 people can work. 4 people is also the dynamic where right about every fucking discord session turns into one big nonstop fucking slapstick comedy joke. It's why I prefer just one multi-player buddy per session but I think 3 could work wonders too.

The gameplay vid looked mediocre due to the xenomorph AI. It's either another failure to code proper AI for them or this is set to invalid difficulty due to console.

Actually, the gameplay video has me stoked. I see they are modeling the acid blood.

Yeah, I agree I'd prefer first person to 3rd, but I think they did that for better situational awareness.

I also agree that 3 player coop is a weird choice considering 4 player is de rigueur.

When the vast majority of cooperative games are four player or more, making one that is limited to three is kind of stupid. Nobody who has a regular group is going to buy a game when it would involve picking one of their friends to sit out every time.

The idea sounds Okay just cause I enjoy a good Left 4 Dead however I'm not sure I dig 3rd person for it... This franchise was meant to be first person, like in any game that comes out for it, lol.

Anyone remember the bunker map from the original AVP? That was hella fun back then with some buddies using 56k dial up, lol. I can't see this having that same intensity when you'll probably end up fighting the camera more than the xenomorphs...

The thing so many of these Alien games and even a few of the movies get all wrong is they show waves of waves of aliens, when the game or movie never establishes where/how enough potential human hosts were available for that many face huggers to leave the egg and plant baby aliens in the humans chests.

As far as the movies are concerned there is only Aliens (which I consider canon), and in that movie we have 158 workers listed plus their families. No idea how many in total there were. We must also assume that they had some livestock which could also potentially increase that number. I'd say a conservative estimate is around 200 people in total. We have no idea if Weyland-Yutani shipped in people in cryotubes for experimentation once the derelict ship was found, but let's assume they didn't. Let's also assume that some aliens were "fragged" by the colonists, I think a very generous estimate of 50 sounds about right. That still leaves some 150 or so Aliens for the marines to face when they arrived at Hadley's Hope.

With games like WH40K: Darktide coming out, there is absolutely no reason why we should settle for this kind of tripe. Now there is a miniscule chance that this might turn out much better than what was shown in that trailer but somehow I doubt it.

Oooh, I totally didn't know about Darktide. Thanks, it looks awesome!

Doesn't look like it pays much attention to the whole 'acid for blood' part of the Aliens universe, and really... hordes of them running down your team is the wrong way to go about it. Should be less enemies, more deadly and harder to kill. More suspense, less constant action.

That's like, your opinion, man, but I welcome more large-scale depictions of this universe. Just because the original films were low-budget and couldn't depict a lot of xenos does not mean that's the mold that everything else in the franchise has to fit. You got your slow suspense in the last good game, let us have a[nother shot at a] good action game.

They clearly depict in the movies, just killing one Alien release acid that burns holes through multiple decks of a ship. Killing them en mass would dissolve entire buildings. The entire concept of this flies in the face of the actual lore.

As far as 'a good action game', there are countless games in the 4 player co-op mold from the Left 4 Dead series, to the Zombie Army series, World War Z or the upcoming Back 4 Blood. There are, on the other hand very, VERY few co-op games that use suspense or stealth, like GTFO.

I mean in hindsight I sort of get it when people want even more fear and tension, but have the coop multiplayer. Imagine having a 4(or however many)-coop game like this, but all the Alien AI behave much smarter (or seem like it anyways) like Alien Isolation, utilizing the environment in ways you cannot in order ambush your team, AI that actually communicates/coordinates, etc. And the Aliens instead of outright killing your player character, might instead drag you back to a Hive. That would be a dream Alien game for me.

Seems like this would have been the perfect IP to use the engine/environment from GTFO. 4-player co-op sneak/aggressive bug-hunt.

Anyone playing GTFO? And if so, what you think?

It's on my radar, but not interested until it's out of early access.

For the few hours I played it with two friends, I liked it and got frustrated by it. Reminded me of Dark Souls, where 'difficulty' was basically 'haha hope you brought Vaseline'. You definitely have to communicate with your team mates, and even then, when something goes wrong, it goes wrong SPECTACULARLY.
There's no scaling in difficulty to the game. You got in solo? GOOD LUCK, MEAT. You go with friends? Your chances get marginally better.

There's adjustments that need to be made to the game, for sure, but if you want somethin' like Left 4 Dead, but way creepier, I'd recommend. Only if you got 3 other souls willing to consign themselves to a hell of a ride.
