Out of the Blue

So March is upon us, the month that's said to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb. As I look out on the frozen tundra I can only hope this is the case. As I often point out, this saying always reminds me of John Belushi's marvelous rant on SNL Weekend Update back in 1976. Here's the quote I first posted from this a couple of years ago: "There's a country where March hops in like a kangaroo, it stays a kangaroo for a while, and then it becomes a smaller kangaroo. Then for a couple of days it's sort of a cross between a frilled lizard and a common housecat. Then it changes back into a smaller kangaroo, and then it goes out like a wild dingo. And it's not Australia! Now you'd think it would be Australia, but it's not!"

Over 150,000 people a year are injured in golf cart accidents. That's insane.

Napping when tired helps? Shocker.

I suspect a large majority are street accidents around here. I live near The Villages. World's largest retiree community, 80k residents, golf cart accessible. You can drive a golf cart anywhere, not just the links. Everyone owns one as a second vehicle. For many people it's their primary vehicle. Shopping, medical plazas, etc here are all golf cart accessible. In some areas they have their own paths, but in many areas they cross or share roads with cars. We have a lot of accidents. A fatal one recently. Add the fact that Villagers like to drink and party, and it makes things more interesting. Grand Kids come visit and drive their grand parents golf carts and have no idea about traffic laws, and makes it more fun. Don't get me wrong, great lifestyle for these people, and overall it's a very safe place, but we do have to watch out for the people driving carts who think right of way laws don't apply to them, or think they can get stinking drunk and still drive one.

Around here traffic laws apply to golf carts and so do DUI regulations. You can lose your drivers license and right to drive a golf cart for a DUI in a golf cart.

Raids: Last Week Tonight w/John Oliver
There's only 20 seconds difference between a no knock raid and a normal raid, basically nothing.
The Supreme Court has ruled that evidence collected if 20 seconds didn't pass is still valid meaning there's no punishment for an LEO to yell police and then break down the door and throw a flashbang in a baby crib (that actually happened, to add insult to injury it happened at the wrong house)

Yeah, when Breonna Taylor was trending last year, my thought was "Yes, BLM, but also no-knock raids have to stop." Radley Balko has done excellent work over the years pointing out negatives of the militarization of the police, and the danger and abuse of no-knock raids specifically.

Also, someone must have been extremely high when they greenlit that singing cop show.

Never heard of Nomadland, but that's not unusual where the Oscars are involved.

That's not a bad description and probably fits in most cases, but I doubt Nomadland director Chloe Zhao is very rich since she makes mostly low-grossing indie films with non-professional actors. This is her biggest film to date, and except for a few roles, still contains mostly non-professionals. A Marvel movie this is not.

That might be about to change though, since she was picked to direct The Eternals.

I'll never watch that movie, but listening to the SlashFilmcast review it was highly entertaining.

I'd seen the trailer since I frequent IMDB, but never thought of it as anything but a "when it comes the movie channels and I am bored" movie.
