When Valheim first hit Steam Early Access just three weeks ago, we hoped that all the hard work our small team put into the game these past three years would get the attention it deserved.
Little did we know just how much Valheim would resonate with all four million of you.
That’s right! Three weeks into Early Access, and we’ve hit another milestone, four million brave souls embarking on the most dangerous feat in over a thousand years of Viking history - trying to make Odin proud.
Some of the latest:
- This past weekend, we hit 500,000 concurrent players - this puts Valheim in the top 5 most played games in the history of Steam.
- Valheim has already been played for a combined total of 10,000 years! That’s 3,649,980 more days than the 20 days it has been on Steam Early Access.
- Still climbing the Steam’s Top 250 best reviewed games of all time, now sitting in 57th place!
- 81,000+ Overwhelmingly Positive reviews
For the fourth (and surely not final) time - thank you!!! We couldn’t have wished for a more engaged, passionate and supportive community, and all of your amazing creations and ideas are keeping us motivated to deliver the Valheim you all deserve.

Psh, you know most of these people buying aren't actually playing it, right? They're going to wait it out for almost two weeks and really stick it to the man with a mass refund!
I was talking about how fast it brings in players. It's meteoric rise. The analogy isn't rocket science.
Except the game actually has real value.
You're right though, it's not a rocket science analogy, more like a short bus one.
I wasn't comparing its value to that of GameStop. I was referring to its sudden rise from all the people joining in to play it, like those who joined the GameStop frenzy. Goodness, gracious!

I'm all in on this, solo ATM. Hoping they bring it to Xbox so I can get the kid in.
The graphics seem horrid at first but like Sea of Theives, the technical art is world class and the whole style grows on you and gels so quickly, for me it's one of the most beuitiful things I think I've ever played. The way lighting, fog, shadows all interact is better than anything I've seen before. Those stroms are wild! Nighttime in the forest? Goosebumps! The fog over the depressions, the eyes of the tree zombies in the dark, the 30 meter high troll getting pissed at the racket you are making at that coal deposit? Frightening! The dungeons are simple but channel that classic Morrowind vibe in a way I've missed since 2002. I think it does mood and ambiance better than SoT and RDR2. But the expeditions are actually scary, fun and profitable on land unlike SoT.
Really good stuff. Might be the first actual minecraft killer for me. Only took over a decade!

You can have sex in CP2077. You can't do that in Valheim. Therefore CP is better.
Good as any metric, sold.

Unfortunately it's already infected pretty much my entire coop crew and even PC gamers at work, it's ridiculous how popular this game is with my age group. Inexplicable! I am probably going to be forced to get it at some point.

>Guess I don't get this game. Got about 10 hours in, seems like completely standard early access open-world fare.
I mean, that's what it is, so yeah, but what sets it apart is execution. It's just extremely well done, and accessible. A lot of these kinds of games are fairly punishing, and Valheim just isn't. It's not innovative. It's just extremely solid - especially as Early Access for $20. If this is the kind of game you're after, it's probably the best choice on Steam, atm.
