Out of the Blue

It's hard to believe a year has passed already, but today marks the first anniversary of the launch of our supporter program. This gives me an opportunity to once again thank all of you who have chosen to participate. Your generosity goes a long way to ensure the viability of this site amid the ups and downs of the display advertising market, and I cannot express my appreciation enough. I would be remiss in not express appreciation to everyone else, as well. Your loyal readership is the foundation of the site, and has been an inspiration for me to continue to love what I do for 25 years and counting. Thank you all.

Different strokes for different folks. I use around 7 or 8 of them every month. Beam

Edit: I feel compelled to add, in over 40 years of check writing and paying bills by mail, I have had only one instance of a payment not arriving in a timely manner. And one instance where someone credited me as if they had processed my check but never actually did. If it ain't broke don't fix it. And, of course, never bounced a check or paid a fee to a bank for my checking account, with the exception of buying checks.

I've got no problem with Patreon or Paypal, and that probably covers most people. I don't see why Blue should have to jump through hoops. If you really want to help, and don't like either service, just get his address and send him a check. You can always set it up as an annual auto pay on your bank's e-pay system.

Check? I don't even remember the last time I saw a physical check let alone used one. It's probably been a couple of decades at least. And it's not jumping through hoops, it's creating options. This is, at the end of the day, a business. Otherwise you're just leaving potential paying customers behind for no good reason.

What is an alternative that you find more acceptable?

Bitcoin! Cutter loves bitcoin.

That's not a bad idea actually. (If you ignore the Cutter part) Crypto donations? I'd be down with that.

You're right, no one needs to bend over backwards because somebody doesn't like the most common payment system in the universe.

I'd also recommend against giving randos on the internet an address so they can send a check.
if you're going to go that route you'd probably set up a PO Box and eat the cost of it. Not to mention having to deal with taxes and bounced checks.
The current methods keep everything neat and tidy.

Is anyone else house hunting right now?

It's absolutely insane. My lease runs out next month, and after almost a full year of two people living in a 1 bedroom, often not leaving for 6 days at a time, and with me generally sitting in a seat at 9:15am and only getting up two or three times between then and 6pm, I'm dying for room.

Good luck on your house search, I'm guessing it varies wildly by state, probably even county. But even if you're stuck in your seat, GET YOUR ASS UP and do some jumping jacks, pushups/situps/squats every so often, unless health issues really prevent you. Sedentary = the slow death. Probably 50-60% of my coworkers have blimped up since Covid, it's looking grim, if this is an accurate representation of the rest of the USA.

Completely agree. Problem is, I am on Zoom calls basically straight through, without gaps. I actually had 6 meetings on my calendar at 12:30 today, which was a first. But it's back to back to back. To back.

Part of the move to the burbs is also to have room for some cardio equipment for the evening.

You might want to add a crypto option. Like a bitcoin or ethereum wallet address.
Be forewarned, though, cashing it out is a tax minefield and it is crazy volatile these days.
I only have some because years ago I had to be able to offer some of my clients the ability to pay ransomware extortionists (against my advice but if they are going to do it I make sure it is done right). Also because I wanted to play with the concepts of ethereum contracts on the dev side of things.

Me, I'll just keep paying in good old Uncle Sam dollars.

Keep up the good work. It is appreciated.

If you're doing mech the best way to go is probably Zazzle, or possibly Redbubble.

Was also going to say that for payment methods it behooves you to have several as there are more common payment methods in other parts of the world that are easier for other people to use. Look at GOG for example...."We currently support the following payment methods: credit cards, PayPal, paysafecard, SOFORT, Giropay, webmoney, iDeal, Skrill, Alipay, UnionPay, WeChat, and Przelewy24. We also support payments via BoaCompra with a bank transfer, boleto, credit card, real-time online banking and wallet."

Interac E-transfers sound safe, easy, and cheap for NA users at any rate.

What the fuck, a high quality cloth mask with Blues News styling, I'd buy several. ADJUSTABLE EAR STRAPS THOUGH, GOD how masks suck otherwise!

Also, Baarack may be one of the best sheep/livestock names I've ever heard, rofl!

Sewcalmasks.com and I'm sure plenty of others do 'Company' (or print your own) masks, although I have stopped ordering from sewcalmasks personally, they are beyond backed up on orders now.

Great quality masks though!

I dunno, buddy. That's on you to find. I'm just telling you I will never go near Paypal ever again. It would take too long to relate the whole tale but suffice it to say they're the worst goddamned company I've ever had to deal with. It came close to actually going to court with them. There must be plenty of other safe, secure ways of getting monies. And ones that don't involve them taking an exorbitant amount as a fee - that's my major beef with Patreon, they take 10 points, fuck that noise.

Quick look and there's Interac E-Transfer. Fees = free up to a buck or two for a transfer. Ask your bank.
