With carjackings on the rise in Chicago and elsewhere, a South Side Democratic state representative has introduced a bill that would ban the sale of Grand Theft Auto and other violent video games.
Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. wants to amend a 2012 law preventing some video games from being sold to minors. Friday, he filed HB3531, which would amend that law to ban the sale to anyone of video games depicting “psychological harm," including "motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present."

The only question is, does it have a chance? A single person introducing a bill means little, there are tons of left field "bills" put forth over a personal feeling. It's when it becomes probable is when it gets real.

As if this fucking loser state I live in isnt bad enough...we get this

So, no more MMA, wrestling, and boxing broadcasting/games - too much violence with fists and feet? No more racing broadcasting and games - too many people dying in car crashes or hit and runs? It's actually too easy to call Jack Thompson II out - he is obviously just fishing for publicity.

Studies have already proven no corrilation between violent video games and an overall increase in violent crime statistics.
And others prove there is.
However, not in the way this bill addresses. This bill is asinine and wrong headed.
The ones that do typically show an increase in short-term aggression and a violent video game. Meaning someone gets "fired up" from playing them and might roughhouse siblings or something. None of them have proven any long-term connection between violence and video games.

Yep. The law currently prevents some games being sold to minors; this bill is to expand the law to prevent them being sold to anyone.
Presumably, this law will only apply to retailers operating in Illinois. Evans is going to flip out when he hears about digital delivery platforms.

I guess violent video games are easier to ban than personal automatic assault weapons.
A well regulated Entertainment System, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Video Games, shall not be infringed.
