I played through the first netcode fix and was far from impressed....with the amount of revenue they were generating they could have done so much better. That said, it was still a blast to play. It was easily the best BR on the market. If they had invested more into netcode/tick/anticheat, I could easily see myself still playing today.

PUBG was a phenomenal game when it came out of EA with friends (3-4 years ago), just riddled with bugs, maybe that was part of its charm at times. The problem is it just didn't evolve further than some bug fixes and a few new features. It's on an outdated engine with mediocre devs. It's still the best BR there is IMO, by far the most realistic with all out all the sliding, parachuting, laser guns with zero recoil, mini map watching spam fest that is all the other BRs.
To call it a cash grab is absurd, it was only $30 3+ years ago and I put 100s of hours into it with friends.

I'm stoked to play this, but I'm going to wait until it's a bit further a long. My daughter actually started a new MC game this WE and we spent about 6 hours exploring and building shit. Good times.

But like most games that got super popular super fast, the success was squandered and it turned into a cash grab.
I hope so too, though PUBG seemed a little like a cash grab from the beginning.

You can add DayZ to that pile of 'Had a great idea, took off, made money, then never went anywhere with the extra development budget'
(In DayZ thought, they shortly announced a updated standalone version that people brought into that is still, about 7 years later in a very early state. - I have not tried it in a year so could be wrong)

The EA game was developed by 5 people. Pretty amazing how it's taken off like it has and looks like they are adding more people to it's development now that is has gained money/following.
