Out of the Blue

We're battening down the hatches as another winter storm is supposed to roll in this afternoon. We dodged a bullet earlier this week when most of the country got walloped, as the ice storm that was predicted for us never materialized. But there are already a few flakes falling here, so I don't think we're going to be as lucky. So we can only hope the power stays on here as fervently as we hope it is returned for those who've been suffering so badly with outages. As usual, if the lights do go out here, I'll do my best to make a post to let everyone here know what's going on.

Stormy Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.

Kxmode,

Well received or not, thank you for your sincere good intentions.
Being true to your beliefs is a fine thing.
May your people realize your best hopes, while not harming or undoing others', unlike so many.

Cheers !

According to the Bible, the world's condition is just par for the course, and it says it's going to worsen. "The Great Tribulation" is coming (Matthew 24:21). That will happen after the world's governments turn on and destroyed most of the major religions. You think times are tough now. Jehovah is going to show people how powerless and fake their gods genuinely are. And for those who turn to governments for protection, there will be no salvation. Daniel 2:44 reads, "In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom never to be destroyed, and God's Kingdom will not pass on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever" Verse 45, "The Grand God has made known ... what will happen in the future."

Jesus said, "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)

What is truth?

"Sanctify them through the truth; your word is truth." (John 17:17)

God's Word, the Bible, is truth. Why is it the truth? The Bible is the only book that tells humans where we came from, why everything is the way it is, how God fixed the problem, and what the future will become.

How many of the world's religions do you suppose follow the Bible's teachings truthfully?

Jesus did say, "Not everyone saying to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will." (Matthew 7:21)

So what is Jehovah God's will? His son, Jesus Christ, tells us what it is.

1. "The Kingdom good news will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14)
2. "Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." (Matthew 28:19,20)

3. I guess adding Solomon's words found at Ecclesiastes 12:13 to the list is appropriate. "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the true God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man." Indeed.

Jesus engaged in this preaching work while on earth. So did his apostles throughout the first century. Today, that work is done worldwide by 8.7 million Jehovah's Witnesses.

Slightly disappointing, not at all surprising. I am reminded of an L&O episode where a lawyer (IIRC, he might not have been a lawyer) is targeting people who were previously conned by a now convicted con artist banker. And one detective says (paraphrased), "Well, you have to give him [the lawyer] credit, they [the victims] already have a proven record of being fooled."

Went down a rat hole researching Texas industry regulation (or lack, thereof). Apparently something else that's lightly regulated, is the massive number of hazardous chemical storage tanks. There's been a lot of chemical explosions in Texas. Because Texas has very loose zoning regulations, it allows mixing of residential and commercial. Because of terrorism concerns, there is no way to know if your house is a couple of blocks away from, say, a giant ammonium nitrate warehouse.

There's been chemical explosions in Texas that have been devastating. This four part Texas Public Radio podcast examines these issues. Interesting stuff:

Sorry for the long post, been gone for 4 days! Hope everyone is safe and warm.

We made it back to the land of electricity here in Austin, and glad the rest of the world is still chugging along!
Lost electricity on Sunday, then water on Tuesday, apartments were dropping 10 degrees a day, on Wednesday they were at 44.
We started moving the elderly to Warming Centers on Tuesday, but no one seemed to know anything about them. But the name was inciting?
The last group came back, after getting out of the vehicle 3 ladies (little to no English) and a gentleman. He used to be on the board of the no profit here
and said it looked like a super spreader. Also, the 3 ladies were scared and said it was too rough looking. He mentioned it looked like they bused the
Homeless there and the seniors didn't feel safe. Probably peeps off meds and such. Anyway we found a hotel near by got 3 rooms for the last 7 leaving.

Beside hot coffee, the one thing I missed the most was Easy Tiger Sourdough! Easily the best sourdough in Texas, original, olive and Walnut Cranberry OMG!
They had not been able to bake bread for 3 days, no water or electricity. So I'm making a food run for all these elderly and say, as long as I get to stop by and
check Easy Tiger, I'll take you anywhere else you want! Mwahaha
I get there with luck, a few lights on. I get out, a gal meets me on the sidewalk and proceed to beg her to sell me bread because I'm a fanboy. But when she started
asking questions I told what was going on. Then she started making sandwiches, of course I was just as starved for a good meal as anyone.
Told her I would buy whatever she had to spare. She said they only had cold ingredients and weren't up to 100% BUT she didn't want my money.
That gal made a bag full 10-12 sandwiches and gave me my loaf of sourdough, holy shit I'm in love! Love
Anyway she told me to call if we needed more help, they were trying to get the word out they were helping. So I called the director of marketing at the nonprofit,
told her what happen. She got so excited she was going to livestream the info.

Anyway got my loaf of bread, oh and saved a bunch of elderly, but come it was sourdough! Worship Giggle
Thanks for going above the call of duty.
Your message is truly uplifting.

Most self-described Christian groups have organizations devoted to missionary work which in whole or in part includes proselytism of the non-religious and people of other faiths (including sometimes other variants of Christianity). Jehovah's Witnesses[14] and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints[15] are known in particular for their doctrinal emphasis on proselytizing.

Are you converted yet?

Surely my failure but really can't imagine a Kingdom of God.
How would it be ?
On Earth ? Do we all have to pass on, or just ascend, etc, and it would be in Heaven ?

Why would an all knowing and supremely enlightened God care to suddenly "show us" and crush and punish His too fallible creatures.
That He made so, His children.
But He will spare and reward his fans, just not the rest.
Is this life a test or a spectacle, a Superbowl of souls ?
