“During the process of reverse-engineering the missing libraries for System Shock 2, we had an opportunity to play around with the idea of creating a standalone VR version,” says Kick in an interview with IGN. “And so we brought on an [VR] expert to look about the cod and give us a brief idea of what kind of things we could do.”
With this blueprint, Nightdive found that there was a solid enough foundation in System Shock 2 to begin fleshing out a full VR version. Kick says System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition will be fully playable in VR along with the game’s multiplayer mode. So co-op can be played in VR in cross-platform, where one player can be in VR and another can play on a standard PC.
Kick was also clear that VR isn’t just a tacked-on extra, but a fully-fleshed out feature. Nightdive is working with an outline on how to create a “really remarkable, built from the ground up VR experience.”

Interesting... I hope they use the HL:A style of movement (teleport) because that adds to the panic and spook of both gameplay styles.
Smooth locomotion is much better for horror games than teleportation.

I can't believe they are spending time on this, because it means the game could have already been released.

Let's be real -- it's impossible, in the existing System Shock 2 configuration, to even configure it to have reasonable modern controller/keyboard support. How the *fk* are they going to VR it?

3 months ago I would've still hated this news.
Then I got myself an Oculus Rift S. I was blown away by the world of VR.
Then I refunded my Rift S for free 2 months later because it fucked with the stability of my system and got myself an Oculus Quest 2. I was blown away a second time, now being wireless. I set up an amazing network for perfect streaming, so my PC does all the hard work while streaming flawlessly to my wireless Oculus Quest 2. I consider myself quite the expert in it by now, so if anyone has/wants a Quest 2 but hasn't (managed to) set up his home network properly for it yet for flawless streaming, give me a shout. The online guides aren't complex but they do all seem to forget to mention some steps (probably because they all plagiate from eachother).

Do you believe this is being developed by one person?
You do understand that most of game development is content-based, which is absolutely done by a completely different group of people than the programming, yes? Which means they found themselves with extra time as content producers werenât finished, so the programming side (and from the article, they brought in someone else entirely) are working on VR implementation. Yes, it will likely require a small amount of specialized content, but not enough to offset release.

VorpX...

This is fantastic news. I was just happy to be able to play it single player in vr but adding in the option for cross platform coop with non vr players is the cherry on top. Wish other companies would follow suit with their classic titles. I've always felt like Deus Ex would be cool in vr.
