I am going to say this as tactfully as possible. One can hope that the meteor hurtling directly at them isn't going to turn them in goo on the molecular level when it hits...but it's still going to happen.
The US cannot hope or soft shoe its way out of its current cultural sickness. As a country, it has to completely overhaul its views on the rights and well-being of citizens over that of corporations and religious zealotry. However, if we're brutally honest, that isn't going to happen in either your or my lifetime. Thus it will continue to slip further down the drain (because it's long past finished circling it) until it becomes another has-been like France, Britain, Germany, Rome, and other former world powers.
