Yes, yes I did. All new except the vid card - still on an RX470 8GB - and my 27" Asus monitor - which is 7 years old now.

It's just funnier with the PS3 because they had 3 models with multiple variants of each. Hell, I think the first run of the PS3 had the hardware from a PS2 in there as well, because they couldn't get the software emulation to work for everything, so had some of the PS2 chips in them. It was definitely a chunky boy... Though being able to load your own OS in the early PS3s was neat.

That's what I thought too. They sell them initially at a loss, then as they age the prices of the chips etc. go down that they can even cut the price after the console is a couple of years old.
MS too... not just Sony.
Back in the day, MS lost $1 billion on xbox original, and that's after all their cut on the software. Since that's a tiny fraction of profit they bring in every quarter in pure cash profit, they just looked at it as the price of doing business.

I was pretty sure that just about every console sold at a loss. It's the risk you take to build that install base. *shrug*
