I don't really see this as a "Windows as a service" but just a virtual pc in the cloud.

The Synology headline is typical click-bait garbage. It only applies to their enterprise devices, and does not affect the consumer line at all. I suspect they got called on it, as the headline was later changed to include that little detail.

In 2012 when my boss said he'd read Microsoft was aiming to get Windows as a service I told him that was crap.
Now I have to go apologize and I don't even work for him anymore (I still build and work on his personal computers, but that's different)
