Deep Rock Galactic Tops 2M Sales

A new post from Ghost Ship Games has another sales success story, announcing that Deep Rock Galactic has sold over two million copies since launching into Early Access on Steam just under three years ago. They admit this is ten times as many copies as they would have considered to be a success for the co-op first-person shooter:
Before we launched into Early Access, we reached an internal agreement that 200.000 units sold during the game's lifetime would be suitable, and would allow us to continue and do a new game. But now we just crossed 2 MILLION units sold, and the game is performing stronger than ever - not only in sales, but also in the strength of the community. When reading a random thread on gaming and suddenly one user comments "Rock and Stone", causing the whole thread to explode in rock-and-stone shouts, then you know you've created something extraordinary and transcending. And the "we" does not only mean us developers, but also very much you, the community around Deep Rock Galactic. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!

It also probably doesn't help that I always played solo. I felt like if I jumped into a random game, I would just be holding my team back, so I never bothered. It's been a few months since I've played, so I might give it another chance.
Every random game I tried I just told them up front I was new, did the tutorials, but they might have to tell me tips and tactics.
It's a great community, everyone tried to help and was friendly about it. Give it a go!

I leveled all my classes around release, and lost the impetus to play shortly thereafter. The game was just too repetitive at the top end.

Been playing this 4 months, and got a couple of my friends into it. Enjoying it a lot.

Those of you who may have tried it a while back and found it repetitive should look at it again. They're constantly adding new environments and they recently added two new mission types. Two more environments are supposed to be released soon.

The game does seem repetitive initially, but once your hazard rating goes up, it gets interesting. There's also the carrot of ranking up your classes, and they've added weekly assignment challenges.

Also, when you get bored, its time to try a different class. I started with gunner because it's easy, then fell in love with the driller. Never thought I'd like the scout, but now I'm digging it, especially in solo missions.

Those who like a lot of gunning, as someone else mentioned, there's a lot more action in coop than solo. Solo tames down the hoards to give you a chance. Coop is a whole different challenge. If you don't stay with the group, there's a good chance you won't survive. The game really stresses cooperative gameplay.

I will say it's one of the few games where I'm happy to play with randos and pretty much never see any toxic behavior.

Any of you who feel uncomfortable playing with other people, shoot me a Steam friend invite. I'm FlyingPenguinOFC on Steam. It's a little easier to ease into coop with one other player.

Solo is a very different experience for what it's worth. With a full team, you'll be fighting much larger waves of enemies. It's also more efficient to navigate the level because you've got access to the platform gun, ziplines, and tunnels/ramps dug by the driller. I play with randoms exclusively, and coordination is pretty good even without voice comms.

I enjoy the occasional solo drop, but those honestly wouldn't keep me involved as long as I have been.

Man... I wish I had liked this game more. It's well made, and seems to be popular, but I just couldn't get into the actual gameplay... too much digging, not enough combat, or something.

Same here. I kind of liked it, but there just wasn't enough variety in the missions to hook me in. I haven't tried escort missions since that's a newer addition I believe. It also probably doesn't help that I always played solo. I felt like if I jumped into a random game, I would just be holding my team back, so I never bothered. It's been a few months since I've played, so I might give it another chance. The Driller was my favorite class, as digging wasn't as much of a chore with them, as Pyro mentioned.

Nice. Good to see coop focused games doing well.

Some of the missions have more combat than others. Escort missions, for example, are almost pure combat. Salvage is also very combat-heavy. You also have the option of bumping up the difficulty level. Haz 5 is rarely dull, even on mining missions.

If using a pickaxe isn't your thing, the driller has an alternate secondary weapon (the EPC) which can be used to strip-mine huge sections of terrain from a distance. It's tricky, but very efficient once you learn the timing.
