Op Ed

  • Cyberpunk 2077 Online News - Cyberpunk - From Valid Criticism to CDPR Witch Hunt.
    "So I am totally on board with all that type of valid criticism, that I listed as have others in other posts. It is fair and reasonable. The issue is the positives, in article and YouTube post after post I hardly see the mention of the strong narrative story, excellently written characters or engaging music. It is, mostly, about the console issues/bugs, stock prices and lawsuits and disgruntled ex-employees. What I take issue with is what has morphed from valid criticism into only what I can describe as a witch hunt. And from someone who lived and worked in Salem, Mass I can tell you I don't toss that phrase around lightly. But sometimes you got to call something what it is no matter how ugly it has become."

Clearly you and Simon didn't read the article only the headline. After you do you'll see how silly you both sound.

Isn't Harlequin a CDPR employee?

Good lord that is a whiny article by Harlequin who I can only determine to be a butthurt fanboy upset by people pointing out what is wrong with the game. {insert Leave Britney Alone meme}

Just take out "CDPR" and put in "Epic Games", and I'm sure you'll immediately jump to his side, as he's putting in the same "passionate defense" of them that you always do for Epic's store.

Why would someone try to reframe the current furor over CDPR doing a 180 and foisting a crunch forged bug ridden product while hyping it to the max, into a witch hunt because some posts about the fiasco don't mention the parts of the delivered product that actually work or have value.

Could this be the Stockholm syndrome, or the I bought the hype and am so invested, I have to defend my stupid choice or lose street cred type situation?

Beat me to it, I was about to post the exact same link.

I'm just starting to play it, after getting a new machine (old one was 5 years old and the new one arrived as Cyberpunk came out). I also have most of the tabletop RPG books. Initially I thought it wasn't true to the context, and a bit of a Deus Ex (original game) knockoff. But it's getting a lot better, and I can begin to see how the game tailors its responses to player actions.

Jury still out but I am not giving up on it yet. Witcher 3 was so good, and the budget for this one was so high, and CDPR's history is that they are so careful (they completely reworked Witcher 1 after fan critique) that I have confidence it will eventually be excellent if not outstanding. Maybe not yet, but it'll get there.

Ah, yes, the old "my opinion is objective truth" angle. You're welcome to not like the game, and there certainly were bugs aplenty, but a lot of people think there are a lot of good things in the game, so you really have no standing to claim the music is the only "objectively good" thing.

Indeed with throngs of people fawning over the story/writing, acting, environmental/level design, and characters just as much as the music the game has many positive ups. Sadly it is the piling on and focus on the negative, disproportionately in my view, which is the case I was trying to make by listing specific people and articles.

Its not really a witch hunt if the witches are real

They only objectively good thing in the game is the music. Which btw they also screwed up the DMCA streaming part of it, so again you can thank CDPR for screwing up even the music part for streamers

People dont mention any of the 'good stuff' because here's the problem. All the bad stuff takes away from it. The music being good isnt relevant if everyone in the club is T-posing. The strong story (which I would argue isn't actually that good) is undermined by it not being good and by the fact that story gameplay relevance is literally non-existent. Its hard to care about characters when they're being shot at and not taking damage, or when 2 characters are apparently in 2 entirely different dialog trees talking to eachother.

Or the fact that literally every single top level exec at CDPR cannot to save their own lives stop putting their foot in their mouth every other day by doing or saying something incredibly stupid.

If you don't like the 'witch hunt' maybe you should go complain to the witches coven about why they're flying around on broomsticks all the time in plain sight

Just finished playing the game with well over 100 hours of playtime. I greatly enjoyed the experience. Zero crashes, zero quest bugs, just a handful of very minor visual bug types. Graphics were excellent (disable over the top volumetric fog), love the city and badlands, love the characters, city felt alive with thousands of NPCs, FPS smooth. Sure, there are improvements needed but this did not alter my experience. My PC: AMD ryzen 3900x 12 core cpu, GeForce RTS 2080 Super at 1440p, 32 gig ram, ssd nvme .m2.
