Well there's good reason for it. It's been a major bone of contention in Canada where immigrants bring in the seniors from their families, who haven't paid dime one into Canada, yet use up a ton of its resources - particularly medical - when you have natural born citizens who have been paying all their lives and usually see waiting lists running into years for treatments, surgeries, etc. And most Canadians have been opposed to it - 70%-80% - forever now. Most countries are pretty much the same or even tougher to get into. Most places you really need a net worth of about $2 million if you're not going there for work.

You aren't wrong, and a lot of countries have perhaps unsurprisingly raised their immigration requirements for applicants from the USA and elsewhere in the last few years. I'd be screwing myself over if I tried to relocate now though, for a lot of reasons. After retirement, we'll see the status of the world; maybe somebody overstays their visa somewhere or something.
