Just because something consumes electricity doesn't mean it's "bad for the environment"...;) Imagine how much wattage the world's cities and towns use each year for their nighttime lighting. x-Box doesn't even register on that scale.

Yeah, it kind of does. The Xbox isn't done niche piece of hardware, it all adds up, and it adds up to a significant amount.
For the US alone it adds up to 4 billion kWh of additional energy consumption over the next five years. That's roughly equivalent to the annual output of a 500 MW power plant, and it translates to about $500 million in added energy costs and 3 million tons of additional carbon dioxide. But you'd know this if you actually read the article.

I don't think they're that inefficient.
And almost anything you plug in has a parasitic draw.

It is, though 80% is on the higher range. In general though, ALL wireless charging is inherently more inefficient than wired by the sheer fact of how it works. And not all parasitic draw is equal. A household worth of wireless chargers can waste enough energy in a day to fully charge a phone. https://debugger.medium.com/wireless-charging-is-a-disaster-waiting-to-happen-48afdde70ed9

Another piece of new tech that's actually worse for the environment is wireless charging. It can require up to 80% more power to charge something compared to just plugging it in. They even draw a non-negligible amount of power when not even charging something.

I just keep my Series X on energy saving mode since cold boots times are fast and quick resume (usually) survives shutdowns. Valhalla just got a patch that made that work for example.

Wait 5-10 seconds for boot up or fuck the internment and all life on the planet? What really pisses me off is the cut and paste greenwashing statements shitheel corps like MS put out in response to issues like these about how they're committed to the environment. Yeah committed to raping it for all they can.
On your point about Corporation virtue signalling, I agree with your sentiment but I'm not sure this falls into that category.

Having said that, I'd like to see Companys get behind unpopular things for a change, like Lower birthrate Initiatives (for the environment) or new starts for ex-convicted criminals...you know, stuff that isn't always popular but actually would make a difference.
