Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games have announced a collaboration on a new Star Wars game. Development on the project will be led by Massive Entertainment whose expertise and talent will be used to create a story-driven, open-world experience within the Star Wars galaxy that will also utilize the studio’s cutting-edge technology and advancements, including the Snowdrop engine.
“The vast Star Wars lore is an incredible source of inspiration for our teams,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft. “This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games, and we are pleased to be working hand-in-hand to build upon the incredible legacy of Lucasfilm to create a game that we know Star Wars fans will love.”

I could get behind a Cyberpunk77 like Star Wars game though. Shiiiiiiiiiit, imagine what CDPR would do with a Star Wars license?
Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.....
Never going to happen. Disney are way too politically correct and goody-feely to ever allow CDPR to make anything close to what we want them to. Disney are an american entertainment conglomerate with a huge leftist lean, and CDPR are Polish people mostly. ;-)

For me the best Star Wars action game is still Jedi Academy. Nothing tops the lightsaber combat in that.

They gave the Star Wars IP to a French company who's protected sexual abusers for over a decade and barely did anything when found out... I'm pretty sure from a "politically correct" and "lean leaning" standpoint CDPR would be a huge upgrade over that.
As for this game Massive has said its going to be a big departure from anything they've done so I very much wouldn't expect it to be star wars division style. I wish I could get excited for the possibilities, but ubi being such a shit company has managed to ruin even the thought of buying their games.

I can understand not wanting every game to be about Jedi, but an open world Star Wars game with no spaceships really does sound like it would be dull. Who'd want that? Maybe they could find some way to not include aliens, droids or repulsorcraft, too.
I dunno, depends on how you do it. Star Wars 1313 sounded pretty cool, and was supposed to take place all on one planet.

WAIT WAIT WAIT... that means EA lost the exclusive license deal?!? *YAY!*
So the question becomes... Open world game... so no starships, and on 1 planet...... Only 1 planet I can think of to really support that (Corcucant and I can't spell for crap today).
I don't see any reason why it would have to be confined to a single planet? Seems like that would be a waste of the license.
Or maybe it could be a single planet but with multiple biomes. Oh wait, then it wouldn't be Star Wars canon. Multiple planets it is then.
